Another Bitcoin Early Buy? Michael Saylor’s latest article fuels rumors

Strategy transferred around 411 Bitcoins – worth around $30 million – to Coinbase Prime on May 29, then withdrew the same amount the next day. Crypto Banter CEO Ran Neuner interpreted the move as a tax maneuver: buy high, sell low, buy back and lock in the paper loss.

The debt deal behind the break

This round-trip transfer occurred amid an unusual break from Strategy’s well-established Bitcoin buying routine. Instead of increasing its holdings immediately, the company quietly retired all of its $1.5 billion in 0% senior convertible bonds due 2029, paying about $1.38 billion in cash, thereby settling the debt at a discount and significantly reducing its outstanding convertible charge.

At the same time, Strategy is also raising new capital. The company offered a notional $2 billion of its Series A floating-rate perpetual preferred stock and raised $84 million from the sale of Class A common stock.

These profits were ultimately used to purchase 24,869 Bitcoins worth over $2 billion. As of May 25, Strategy held 843,738 Bitcoins on its balance sheet, valued at approximately $62.24 billion, as well as approximately $871 million in cash.

“The strategy has the flexibility to fund strategic transactions using cash, digital equities, digital credit or digital capital, giving us multiple levers to optimize our balance sheet and respond to market conditions,” said Executive Chairman Michael Saylor.

Saylor drops his signature signal

Saylor now appears to be signaling that buying could resume. On Sunday, May 31, he posted Strategy’s Orange Dots chart on X with the caption “Work Better.” The chart historically accompanies announcements of new Bitcoin acquisitions, and its reappearance quickly sparked speculation that another purchase was imminent.

Reports indicate that the post follows weeks of unusual activity – debt paydowns, capital raises and the Coinbase move – all of which left observers wondering whether the strategy was changing its approach or simply retooling ahead of another move.

A model to watch

The Orange Dots chart has become something of a calling card for Saylor in the crypto community. Whenever this surfaces, markets tend to pay attention to it.

It remains to be seen whether an official acquisition announcement will follow this week. What is clear is that Strategy has actively reshaped its capital structure – reducing its debt, raising funds through multiple channels, and managing its Bitcoin holdings with what Saylor called a “dynamic, multivariate capital allocation model.”
