Now it’s starting to feel real. Jack, CEO of bitchat, said the app has rolled out major upgrades that make peer to peer messaging more useful, more stable and more secure, even without internet. These changes show how decentralized communication is moving from theory to everyday use.

bitchat now supports photos and audio notes sent over Bluetooth mesh. It also uses a smarter routing system that allows messages to travel longer distances. Under the hood, the app leverages Tor’s Arti framework, a modern tool designed to improve speed and reliability. Just as importantly, a third-party security company audited the system and the team fixed any issues found.

Why Bluetooth Mesh Matters Now

Bluetooth mesh looks complex, but the idea is simple. Nearby phones transmit messages to each other, like neighbors sharing notes on a street. No central server is needed. This makes communication harder to block and useful in places where internet is weak or non-existent.

A concrete example occurred during recent natural disasters, when power outages knocked out mobile networks. In many regions, users relied on short-range wireless tools to share updates locally. Apps like bitchat build on this idea, but add encryption and routing logic so messages can travel further and remain private.

bitchat now has:
– photos/audio notes in Bluetooth mesh
– better routing algorithm for more stable and longer range meshes
– used @torprojectThe arti framework for speed and reliability
– audited by a third-party security group and responded to all findings

This also corresponds to a clear trend. According to industry data from 2024, interest in privacy-focused messaging apps has increased more than 20% year-over-year, driven by concerns about surveillance and data misuse. Investors are closely watching users who are looking for tools that give them control back.

Security, speed and trust

One notable update is the use of Tor’s Arti framework. Tor is best known for protecting online privacy. Arti is its newest engine, designed to be faster and easier to integrate. Simply put, it helps messages take safer paths without slowing everything down.

For three years, we have been working on tools to monitor the health of the Tor network. 🩺 This work aims to strengthen the resilience and resistance of the Tor network to relay attacks. These tools recently underwent a third-party audit, and here are the results!…

Security audits are important here. Many blockchain and crypto projects ignore them or treat them lightly. By hiring an independent security group and correcting all findings, bitchat signals maturity. For investors, this reduces risk. For users, this builds trust that private messages remain private. Adding photos and audio also changes how the app can be used. The text alone limits adoption. Rich media makes the platform familiar, which reduces barriers for new users.
