Over the past 24 hours, the broader cryptocurrency market has flattened. Bitcoin price appears to be trading in an increasingly tight range between $70,600 and $69,500, highlighting ongoing consolidation following a period of increased volatility.
The majority of altcoins are also trading relatively stable over the past day, showing insignificant price differences. Could this be the calm before the storm of the new week, or are we in for a period of choppy prices?
Bitcoin price flattens to $70,000
After a week of high volatility and billions of dollars of derivatives positions liquidated, the price of Bitcoin is now trading relatively stable, around $70,000. At the time of writing, the asset is closer to $71,000, but volume has left the market, which is somewhat expected for the weekend.
Recall that BTC surpassed $76,000 earlier in the week and lost just under 10% of its value in the days that followed. This indicates the uncertainty facing the broader crypto market as geopolitical tensions continue internationally, especially against the backdrop of the ongoing war between the United States, Israel and Iran in the Middle East.
Soaring oil prices and fears of rising inflation have pushed risk markets into a correction, which could extend into broader consolidation ahead of any potential recovery, which would depend heavily on how the conflict resolves in the near future, if at all.
Altcoins also uncertain
As you can see from the heatmap below, the altcoin market remains undecided. The majority of cryptocurrencies saw insignificant price differences over the past 24 hours, with most of them trading within a range between -1% and +1%.
Of course, there are a few exceptions, such as WLFI, which appears to be up over 4%, but these appear anecdotal and are very unlikely to lead to sustained bullish momentum, at least not under current market conditions.

It is interesting to see how the market develops over the coming week and whether trading volumes will return, but the current state of the altcoin market appears to be heavily dependent on the performance of Bitcoin, which, as noted above, mirrors traditional risk-on markets in most of their models.
