Key notes
- The Bitwise CEO notes that several crypto holders have started coming forward recently.
- This comes as LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman revealed he has been investing in crypto since 2013.
- More and more institutional investors have entered the crypto space over the past year.
Hunter Horsley, CEO of Bitwise, spoke to X to point out that several crypto holders have started coming forward as of late. In light of this new trend, he noted that those who do not own crypto often find that they are a minority. Horsley’s statement was a reaction to Reid Hoffman’s recent purchase of CryptoPunk.
Crypto is now less taboo
LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman published a post on October 24 announcing that he had purchased a digital collectible called CryptoPunk a few months ago.
He surprised a number of his followers by stating that he had been investing in the digital asset space for around 13 years. According to the founder, he has now joined one of the most influential communities in crypto.
Horsley pointed out that most of the “impressive people and companies” who have cryptocurrencies in their portfolio make almost no noise about it.
So far, most of the impressive people and companies that own cryptocurrencies are saying nothing.
As they begin to reveal that crypto is less taboo, skeptics will be surprised to realize that they are actually in the minority.

However, the situation has changed recently as many of them have started to come forward. Their confidence to come forward is likely driven by the new status of crypto globally.
As Horsley says, “cryptography is less taboo,” hence the desire to open up. Therefore, many skeptics will find this revelation surprising. The CEO of Bitwise claimed that they would realize that they were actually a minority.
Institutional investors challenge JPMorgan analysis
As Horsley rightly pointed out, the number of cryptocurrency owners has increased significantly.
This trend is more common among institutional investors, particularly with Michael Saylor’s strategy taking over. This idea is supported by Sygnum Bank’s annual survey, which found that 57% of institutional investors are considering increasing their crypto allocations.
Still, Horsley’s statement is far from the opinion of JPMorgan analysts. These entities noted that 71% of investors plan to avoid cryptocurrencies altogether in 2025. At the time, there was already a slight growth in crypto involvement, but the general atmosphere still reeked of skepticism. This was due to market volatility and lack of regulatory clarity.
However, there have been some improvements in the market, particularly since Donald Trump became President of the United States.
