Blockchain DMD today announced the release of a new technical analysis examining the relationship between its DMD Diamond (DMD) V4 blockchain and rapidly growing zero-knowledge (ZK) technologies, positioning DMD V4 as a foundational Layer 1 infrastructure designed to support the next generation of scalable, privacy-focused applications.

As the crypto industry increases its focus on Layer 2 scalability and privacy-enhancing solutions, the Blockchain DMD development team has released a comparative architectural review of its recently launched V4 mainnet and widely adopted zero-knowledge proof systems.

DMD Diamond, originally founded in 2013, recently deployed its V4 mainnet built on Honey Badger BFT (HBBFT) consensus combined with POSDAO governance. According to the announcement, even as ZK rollups and privacy protocols gain momentum, they depend on a secure, decentralized, and cost-effective base layer – a role that Blockchain DMD says DMD Diamond is designed to fill.

Technical analysis highlights fundamental differences

The analysis highlights several fundamental distinctions between DMD Diamond’s Layer 1 architecture and zero-knowledge technologies:

Consensus level and cryptographic security

DMD Diamond V4 provides consensus-level security through HBBFT and POSDAO, allowing the network to remain operational and secure even when a significant portion of validator nodes behave maliciously. This model emphasizes cooperative Byzantine fault tolerance at the protocol level.

In contrast, zero-knowledge systems rely on mathematical cryptographic proofs that validate information without revealing the underlying data. These solutions are typically deployed on top of existing base layer networks.

Instantaneous purpose vs. dependent purpose

DMD V4 offers deterministic instant finality, meaning that transactions become irreversible as soon as they are included in a block.

ZK rollups running on networks such as Ethereum typically inherit finality characteristics from the underlying Layer 1, which can introduce confirmation delays.

Position DMD Diamond as a ZK-enabled infrastructure layer

Rather than presenting zero-knowledge technologies as competitive alternatives, the Blockchain DMD announcement emphasizes interoperability and synergy.

The technical analysis identifies three main advantages that DMD Diamond offers to ZK-based applications:

  • Reduced transaction costs: Generating and verifying ZK proofs requires significant computing resources. DMD Diamond’s business model and low transaction fees are designed to reduce the operational costs of ZK deployments.
  • Censorship resistance and MEV protection: HBBFT consensus encrypts transactions before block inclusion, mitigating foreground and miner extractable value (MEV) risks. This framework supports fair execution environments for ZK-based mixers, decentralized exchanges, and privacy applications.
  • Full EVM Compatibility: DMD Diamond V4 supports the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing developers to migrate or deploy existing ZK-based smart contracts without rewriting code.

“We see huge potential in Zero Knowledge, particularly in terms of privacy and data compression,” said Helmut Siedl, blockchain visionary at DMD Diamond. “However, ZK is an engine that requires a robust chassis. The DMD Diamond V4 with HBBFT consensus offers just that: truly decentralized, tamper-proof, and ready for high loads. We don’t compete with ZK; we give it the best home.”

The company said the analysis is part of a broader initiative to position DMD Diamond as an infrastructure optimized for high-performance decentralized applications requiring security, fairness and scalability.

About DMD Diamant

Founded in 2013, DMD Diamond is one of the oldest layer 1 blockchains, focused on security, interoperability and decentralized governance. The ecosystem is community-driven, with stakeholders collectively guiding the development of protocols and long-term strategic direction.
