A few blockchain-connected names are launching this week.
This week there are some interesting launches in the blockchain naming space.
First, Orange Domains is launching .locker in general availability on Wednesday.
.Locker is a “real” top-level domain name with web features. But it also has web3 technology thanks to integration with the Bitcoin Naming System (BNS).
The early access phase ends today and there are currently around 50 domains in the .locker zone. On Wednesday, registrars including GoDaddy and Namecheap will begin offering domains at regular prices.
It appears that most registrars will charge between $70 and $90 per year, although 101Domain currently offers the first year for just $29.99.
Additionally, D3 today announced the launch of *ape, aimed at the Bored Ape Yacht Club community.
The company uses a * instead of a . because the name is not yet a real domain. This will require the company to successfully obtain the domain through ICANN’s new top-level domain program.
For now, clients can get an *ape name with web3 functionality. If the company succeeds in obtaining .ape, general web functionality will be added.
*Monkey names sell for the equivalent of $30.
