Successful validation at the port of Antwerp-Bruges presents advanced airline solutions

Unifly, a UAS Traffic Management (UTM) technology company and part of Terra Drone Corporation (Terra-drone.net), has managed to demonstrate port surveillance as part of the Certiflight project. Directed at the port of Bruges of Antwerp (POAB), one of the most important and busiest ports in Europe, this demonstration highlights the potential of UTM solutions supported by blockchain to improve space safety air and operational efficiency.

Certiflight: Improvement of flight data authentication

Certiflight is the first U-Space initiative based on Galileo to use the authentication technology of open navigation messages (OSNMA). It aims to safely record flight data at low altitude, including general aviation drones and flights, using the blockchain. The system prevents data falsification by encrypting flight recordings and verifying the authenticity of the location with the Digital Global Satellite System (EGNSS) and Internet of Objects (IoT) devices.

Unifly has participated in Certiflight since November 2022, providing its UTM system to improve responsibility and safety in drone operations. By ensuring that the flight data remains immutable, the system supports compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitates the generalized adoption of drone operations beyond the visual line of view (BVLOS). It also rations the process of approving drone flights, allowing air controllers to check and authorize flights more efficiently.

Port monitoring demonstration

The port of Antwerp brothers was chosen as a test site because of its high traffic airspace and its complex operational environment. Only collaborated with the local drone operator Sky Vision to carry out surveillance and infrastructure inspections in real time. Drones equipped with Certiflight technology have captured images and videos to help in the management of debris and structural assessments.

The main achievements of the demonstration include:

  • Real -time flight visualization: The UTM platform of Unifly has displayed drone flight paths through its monitoring API, distinguishing authenticated monitoring data from non-authenticated signals.
  • Precise positioning and security: OSNMA has provided reliable location data, preventing usurpation attempts, while Blockchain technology has protected flight records from unauthorized modifications.
  • Improvement of regulatory compliance: The system has simplified flight approvals by transmitting authenticated flight data to certification portals, allowing transparent coordination with aerial space regulators.

“The Certiflight demonstration at the POAB is a pivotal moment for the project. It illustrates how UTM solutions supported by blockchain can improve safety, transparency and responsibility in complex environments. We are proud to contribute to the future of autonomous aviation, “said Andres Van Swalm, CEO of Unifly.

Wider applications and future developments

The demonstration of port surveillance is part of the wider validation campaign of Certiflight, which includes tests in Belgium, Italy and the Czech Republic. These trials assess the performance of the system in various operational environments and its interoperability with several UPP service providers.

Unifly and Terra Drone (unifly.aero) plan to extend the application of UTM technology supported by blockchain to sectors beyond port operations, including urban air mobility and industrial inspection. By integrating digital authentication and authentication, Certiflight aims to support the growing demand for secure and scalable drone operations worldwide.
