Brad Garlinghouse Targets $16 Billion Payment Flows: Is XRP Ripple Really Going to 100X?

XRP Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse told CNBC on June 26 that Ripple now processes approximately $16 trillion in annual payments and clearing activities in its acquired businesses, and that digital assets, including XRP, represent “nearly zero percent” of that volume.

This gap is either the most compelling institutional payments story in crypto or one of the most misinterpreted setups in the market today, depending on which numbers you trust.

This comment from Garlinghouse comes as XRP opened the week down around -1% and is currently trading at $1.04, worryingly close to the long-held $1 support zone, which, if lost, could see a free fall towards $0.80.

Brad Garlinghouse on CNBC: The long-term value of digital assets comes from utility, not financial engineering.

This utility is reflected in the numbers. $XRP On-Demand Liquidity processed $1.2 billion in Q1 2026, up 45% year-over-year, highlighting the growing real-world cross-border adoption on…

The $16 Trillion Gap and What It Really Means

Garlinghouse presented this figure as an opportunity, not a failure. “How to integrate traditional finance into the modern blockchain architecture?” he said, adding that through the acquisitions, “we have a tremendous opportunity to make this happen.” The $16 trillion covers payments and clearing throughput at companies acquired by Ripple; it is not a pipeline of pending XRP transactions.

This distinction is important. In an April 2026 Fox Business interview related to the GTreasury acquisition, Garlinghouse cited a similar figure of $13 trillion and predicted that around 30% of that could move onto blockchain rails within five years. Even a 1% migration at a sustained speed would represent volumes an order of magnitude greater than current on-chain settlement activity.

Ripple has built the infrastructure necessary to manage this change. Real-world examples of Ripple’s payments infrastructure already span multiple lanes, and the XRP Ledger is now hosting live stablecoin deployments.

Ripple and Bitso run both MXNB and RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for dollar-peso liquidity between the United States and Mexico. Bitso supports over 10 million users and over 2,000 institutional clients on this corridor alone.

XRP Ripple 100x math is difficult to analyze

The “XRP 100x” framing circulating on YouTube and X comes from third-party content creators, not directly from Garlinghouse or Ripple. Garlinghouse has always refused to publish numerical price targets.

The most cited institutional XRP price prediction comes from analysts at Standard Chartered, who projected XRP at $8 in 2026 and $12.50 by 2028, per CNBC coverage, a significant rise from current levels, but nowhere near a 100x move.

A multiple of 100 from current prices would require a market capitalization that would rank XRP among the largest financial assets in the world. This is not impossible over several decades, but it requires assuming that XRP becomes the dominant settlement asset across Ripple’s entire institutional stack, a scenario that directly competes with RLUSD and other stablecoins that can capture transaction value without requiring XRP as a transition asset at all.

Ripple itself is targeting annual revenue of $1 billion by the end of 2026, explicitly excluding XRP holdings, according to Yahoo Finance. This indicates that the business model is based on infrastructure fees, custody, settlement, and treasury services, not XRP price appreciation.

XRP ETF inflows and price action data reflect this disconnect: institutional interest has increased without a corresponding price breakout, precisely because rails adoption does not automatically translate into demand for the token.

Bull Case, Base Case, Bear Case for Crypto 2026

Few people believed in the potential at the time, but it happened. On the other hand, for $XRP, we entered historic oversold levels on several indicators. The reset is much closer to being finished than starting. The signals are now flashing. We are approaching. Thanks @MoonLamboio 🤝🏻 pic.twitter.com/qcNdkidOvR

Case of the bull: Ripple converts even 5-10% of its $16 trillion payment base onto XRP Ledger settlement rails, CME derivatives deepen institutional liquidity, RLUSD on XRPL drives sustained demand for bridge assets for XRP, and regulatory clarity after resolution of SEC cases accelerates adoption by banks. XRP rerates pricing towards Standard Chartered’s $8-$12.50 range and beyond.

Reference case: Ripple Hits $1 Billion Revenue Target Thanks to Infrastructure Fees. RLUSD and MXNB manage the stablecoin settlement layer. XRP retains its utility as a transitional asset in corridors where speed and cost are important, but token price follows modest volume growth rather than exponential adoption. Crypto 2026 sees XRP trading in line with broader market sentiment.

Bear case: Stablecoins capture the settlement value visible on the XRP Ledger without requiring XRP as an intermediary. The $16 trillion figure remains largely off-chain. The price is stagnating as enterprise adoption of Ripple’s infrastructure grows without a corresponding increase in demand for the tokens.

Ripple Swell 2026, which is expected to attract more than 1,500 attendees, more than 75 speakers, and more than 50 sessions, will be the next major test of whether the blockchain settlement narrative translates into engaged institutional volume.

The infrastructure case for institutional payments on the XRP Ledger is the most credible ever. The 100x case requires several additional dominoes to fall in sequence, and Garlinghouse himself did not promise that they would do so.
