The exchange of Turkish crypto BTCURK was targeted by a major cyber attack, which led to a flight of approximately $ 48 million in digital assets.

On August 14, the safety company Blockchain Cyvers reported that the stolen funds had been moved to several networks, notably Ethereum, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Mantle and Polygon.

Most of the assets were transferred to only two addresses, where the attacker started to exchange them.

BTCURK confirmed hacking in a post on X, stressing that only hot wallets have been affected. The company is one of the largest crypto exchanges in the country and has more than five million users.

According to the company:

“During checks made on August 14, 2025, an unusual activity was detected in our hot wallets. As a precaution, cryptocurrency and withdrawal transactions have been temporarily suspended. These services will be reactivated once the work is completed. ”

The company has assured users that most of the assets remain safely stored in cold wallets and that the incident will have no impact on customer assets. He added that Turkish trade and transactions will normally continue.

BTCURK has argued that the authorities have been informed and coordinate closely with the cybersecurity teams to secure its infrastructure.

This attack follows a similar incident about a year ago, when the hot BTCTURK portfolios were targeted, causing significant losses of more than $ 55 million.

At that time, the exchange said that only a part of ten cryptocurrencies in hot wallets were affected, while the assets of the cold wallets remained intact.

Centralized exchanges under attack

The latest BTCURK hacking incident adds to the growing list of centralized cryptographic trading platform attacks this year.

Earlier in the year, Bybit, one of the most important cryptography exchanges, underwent a hack which stole approximately 1.5 billion dollars in Ethereum tokens.

Since then, other large crypto trading platforms such as Coindcx based in India has also lost more than $ 44 million.
