Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson shared a interesting prospects for the crypto market in a recent Altcoin Daily YouTube interview, projecting a major rise for Bitcoin in 2026 while also describing how capital is flowing into altcoins. His comments touched on institutional demand, decentralized finance, and why the next phase of the crypto market may soon decouple from Bitcoin.
Bitcoin at $250,000 and the Bridge to DeFi
When asked if he is still bullish on Bitcoin in 2026, Hoskinson said he expects Bitcoin to reach around $250,000 in 2026, pointing to continued institutional demand as the main driver.
This prediction is interesting, especially given the current context of Bitcoin price action, which is currently stuck below $90,000. This is not a new position for Hoskinson either, which floated before the same target during an appearance on CNBC’s Squawk Box.
In the YouTube interview with Altcoin Daily, Hoskinson noted that the missing coin provides a credible way for Bitcoin’s enormous stored value to interact with the broader DeFi ecosystem. He explained that Bitcoin holders are very cautious about entrusting custody of their assets to third parties, which limits the amount of BTC that can be productively deployed.
The solution, he says, lies in non-depository credit systems. Hoskinson described a future in which Bitcoin can be lent non-custodially to access stablecoinswhich are then deployed on DeFi to generate yield.
If the yield generated exceeds the cost of credit, Bitcoin holders earn predictable passive returns without sacrificing control of their holdings. Once these mechanisms mature, billions of dollars of Bitcoin value could gradually flow into altcoins, providing a stronger foundation for real adoption in the altcoin sector.
Solana vs Ethereum as 2026 Approaches
Hoskinson also shared his views on the comparison between Ethereum and Solana, explaining that the difference lies in how each network can grow from there. He said Ethereum is, in many ways, a victim of its own success. After years of growth, it has become a huge ecosystem that is naturally more difficult to move and adapt quickly.
Solana, on the other hand, is a faster-moving channel that can experiment and adopt new ideas more easily. According to Hoskinson, Solana could be better positioned for growth over the next few years thanks to its tighter leadership and more agile development approach. Nonetheless, he was careful to give Ethereum its due credit, noting that it continues to carry a large part of the fundamental work between altcoins and DeFi.
When asked about Cardano and MidnightHoskinson said his optimism is rooted in different fundamentals for everyone, although Midnight still has much more room to grow. Cardano focuses more on long-term infrastructure and research-driven development, but Midnight represents something new for the industry.
Midnight is a recently launched partner chain created by the creators of Cardano, and it functions as a complementary network in Cardano. In the interview, Hoskinson described Midnight as part of a fourth generation of cryptocurrency design, positioning it as a first mover that could capture a large market share if development and adoption progresses quickly enough.
