What is FIFA blockchain?

In May 2025, FIFA announced the launch of a dedicated layer 1 blockchain using avalanche subnet technology.

This transition marks a gap compared to its previous use of the Algorand blockchain, which had fueled the initial companies of FIFA in web3, including the FIFA NFT market launched before the 2023 club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

The new blockchain is designed to serve as a new infrastructure for FIFA blockchain products, such as collectibles and digital games, offering improved performance, scalability and user experience.

The FIFA seat in Zurich

Did you know? FIFA, the world director of football, was founded on May 21, 1904 in Paris by seven European nations. Today, it has 211 member associations – more than the United Nations – and has its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.

What is FIFA’s web3 strategy?

There are several reasons behind the FIFA pivot, from Algorand to the construction of its own blockchain, most of which are summed up in control, scalability and integration of the ecosystem.

Infrastructure control

Under its agreement with Algorand, FIFA relied on an external protocol to supply its digital collectibles. While Algorand offered energy and low -cost economical transactions, the ecosystem remained relatively isolated.

The FIFA blockchain gives it full sovereignty on the protocol layer, which allows it to decide how the assets are issued, how games integrate and how users interact with its products without depending on the third -party decisions of the roadmap.

Scalability for world fans events

FIFA serves a fans base estimated at more than 5 billion people worldwide, according to the organization’s own figures published after the 2022 World Cup. During this tournament alone, FIFA reported more than 1.5 billion viewers for the final match.

The blockchain infrastructure must manage extreme overvoltages during these events. The Avalanche sub-re -greation architecture allows FIFA to extend independently of the wider avalanche network, providing customizable flow and governance adapted to peaks based on events in user activity.

Best developer and user compatibility

Unlike Algorand, which is not compatible with EVM, the avalanche subnets support the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM) by default.

This allows the FIFA blockchain to interact natively with the wider Ethereum ecosystem; Developers can more easily carry intelligent contracts, and users can get involved using standard wallets like Metamask, Trust Wallet and others.

This reduces the integration of friction and opens the door to a broader commitment to the web3 community.

Interoperability with other channels

Avalanche has positioned its subnet technology as a modular solution for companies and institutions that build their own channels that still need transversal interoperability. This is aligned with the declared interest of FIFA to expand beyond collecting objects in the web3 game tools and fans participation that interact with several platforms.

Consensus of proof of avalanche assistance in action

Did you know? Avalanche subnets, like that of FIFA approaches, are designed for great scalability. Although the main avalanche chain can manage approximately 4,500 transactions per second (TPS), the subnets can be adapted to reach an even higher flow depending on the specific application needs.

More on the Crypto platform of FIFA – Blockchain in sports

The FIFA blockchain is under construction as a dedicated subnet, a customizable blockchain that works independently while enjoying the model and the avalanche consensus infrastructure.

The subnets can have their own tokenomic, assemblies of validators and smart contract logic. The EVM compatibility of FIFA means that developers can build decentralized applications (DAPP) using solidity, and FIFA can integrate into larger financial and decentralized NFT ecosystems if it chooses it.

In practical terms, this configuration provides FIFA with a mixture of scalability, performance and flexibility that chains for general use have not yet equaled for large -scale sports applications.

Users will now have to connect via EVM compatible portfolios, as FIFA abandons support for wallet -based wallet systems used in the anterior phases of FIFA Collect

Blockchain for football fans

Now that the dedicated FIFA blockchain is live, fans are starting to see the first wave of products and experiences built on it – digital collectibles improved at games powered by the blockchain and fans -based platforms based on blockchain.

FIFA digital collectibles

FIFA Collect, the official official digital collection platform of the organization, has completely gone from Algorand to the new Blockchain based on avalanche in June 2025. On the improved platform, fans can always buy and exchange protruding facts of FIFA tournaments like NFTS, but now some of these NFTs are delivered with additional utility.

For example, some items now offer actual world’s advantages, such as World Cup tickets for FIFA 2025 or exclusive air currents linked to the FIFA World Cup 2026. FIFA Collect has also become easier to use thanks to better portfolio integration and faster transaction speeds, with the web3 modex developer now surpassing the continuous development of the platform.

A mobile game with real digital property

FIFA also enters blockchain games via a new mobile title called FIFA Rivals, developed with legendary games and bacon games. The game should be launched worldwide in June 2025 and is timed with the club World Cup.

Unlike traditional football matches, FIFA rivals look at Arcade style action and fantastic gameplay. The players will constitute and personalize the teams, will compete in live matches and will collect digital player cards, which all exist in NFT. These articles at stake are negotiable on the mythos blockchain, which means that fans actually have what they earn or buy and can take these assets beyond the game environment.

A token to unite world fans

The FIFA blockchain also opens the door to new ecosystems led by fans. One of the most notable is 0xfútbol, a community project built on Avalanche which tries to bring fans of the game closer to digital property and interactive participation.

Launched in June 2025, the platform is centered on the Futbol token, which acts as a unifying asset on several applications and games. Fans can use the token on the prediction markets, engage in quests on the theme of the tournament and win awards for their participation. The long-term objective is to give fans more participation in the sport itself.

Web3 Fan engagement FIFA

The move from FIFA to its own EVM compatible blockchain, built on Avalanche, marks a significant change in the way fans of the world can engage in sport.

Global portfolio

By adopting EVM compatibility, FIFA allows fans to use portfolios largely recognized as Metamask and WalletConnect.

This transition simplifies access to users, especially in emerging markets, by removing the need for specialized portfolios previously required on platforms like Algorand. Consequently, fans can more easily participate in digital collectibles, games and other experiences based on blockchain.

Spectators to participants

Like Appliating, the new blockchain infrastructure allows fans to go beyond passive audiences. Thanks to platforms like FIFA Collect and games such as FIFA rivals, supporters can have digital assets, win rewards and engage in interactive experiences.

In addition, projects like 0xfútbol allow fans to engage with the game as active participants, each with a financial participation, a voice in decisions and a more immersive global experience.

Large -scale token fandom

FIFA’s blockchain establishes the basics of a global digital rights market and loyalty programs. Fans can have access to exclusive content, match experiences and other advantages related to their digital commitment.

The integration of FIFA blockchain technology is a step towards a more connected and participative future for football fans around the world.
