Crypto leaders are turning to personal security services while targeted kidnappings and ransom attempts continue to degenerate, especially in France.
Private security companies such as International Risks International, based in Amsterdam, report a strong increase in demand from cryptography professionals who are looking for 24 -hour protection in the midst of an increasing abduction of cryptography, according to a Bloomberg report.
The increase in requests for information occurs in the middle of a series of violent attacks, including multiple attempts at kidnapping that have both alarmed investors and the police.
France deploys emergency measures to protect cryptographic entrepreneurs
The French authorities responded by deploying a set of emergency measures aimed at protecting the country’s cryptographic entrepreneurs.
These include the supply of information on security, direct access to the support of the emergency police and public security recommendations – such as avoiding wealth or clothing related to cryptographic brands that could attract unwanted attention.
The threat became more tangible earlier this year when David Balland, co-founder of the LEDGER equipment portfolio manufacturer, was kidnapped in January and held for Rançon.
He was released a few days later in a police operation. It was one of the many cases that have exposed the growing risks for those who operate in digital asset space.
In May 2024, the father of a cryptographic entrepreneur was saved from captivity after the French police stormed a suburbs of Paris.
The suspects had broken one of the victim’s fingers, echoing the previous high level attacks involving physical mutilation and digital wallets.
Barely a few days ago, Pierre Noizat, founder and CEO of French Crypto Exchange Paymium, saw his own targeted family.
A group of masked men tried to remove the girl and the grandson of Noizat in broad daylight. The assault was thwarted when the victims and a passerby managed to fight the attackers.
More recently, three teenagers have been accused of having removed a man under the threat of a weapon after his return from an organization of an event linked to the crypto in the city center of Las Vegas.
After his return to his apartment, the victim was caught up under the threat of a weapon by three adolescents from Florida.
The attackers forced him to enter their vehicle, covered the head of a towel and warned him not to look at them. They led him to more than 70 miles in a distant desert near White Hills, Arizona.
These incidents have intensified calls for better protection for those linked to the world of cryptography, especially because the increase in the values of assets makes large -scale figures of the targets more attractive.
The French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, has since summoned discussions with the leaders of Crypto, noting that the government deals with threats with an increasing emergency.
The security expert documents several kidnappings of cryptographic figures
Crypto security expert Jameson LOPP has documented dozens of attacks on cryptography figures since 2014.
His GitHub list shows more than 20 incidents in person this year, with 28 in 2024 and 17 in 2023.
These cases show that crypto flight is no longer limited to hacks and online scams; Personal security is now an important concern for people in the industry.
