Rap star Drake’s official X account was compromised today, with the hacker using it to promote a fraudulent coin called “Anita,” as reported by blockchain sleuth ZachXBT.

Hackers posted messages claiming that the token was created in partnership with Stake, the gaming platform associated with Drake. The messages included a contractual address and a character related to the project before being deleted. The official X account claimed by the project was quickly suspended.

Drake, who has a long-standing partnership with crypto gaming platform Stake dating back to 2022, has publicly expressed his support for digital assets. He previously shared a post featuring Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin remarks on Instagram.

The famous artist recently faced allegations from a 20-year-old social media influencer who claimed he suffered a $2 million loss in a crypto investment deal. The influencer, during a live stream with DJ Akademiks, alleged that Drake and an individual known as Top5 failed to deliver on their promises related to this investment.

Hacking social media accounts to promote fake projects or tokens is a common tactic among cybercriminals in the crypto space. Fraudsters often target high-profile individuals and brands to create a facade of legitimacy for their fraudulent schemes.

In October, the X account of Andy Ayrey, the founder of Truth Terminal, was attacked. The hacker used this access to promote a token called “IB” and walked away with a net profit of $600 million.

Last week, the Cardano Foundation’s X account was compromised, with attackers posting false information about a purported SEC lawsuit and promoting a fraudulent token.
