All eyes are on the Medalla testnet — the genesis in less than 24 hours 👀

tl;dr

The Medalla testnet launches tomorrow 🏅

The minimum validator deposits (over 16,000 of them) required to launch the Medalla testnet were reached on Friday, meaning that the genesis of this testnet should take place at 1596546008 Unix timeOr 8 seconds after August 4 at 1:00 p.m. UTC. If you’re curious about how this time is calculated, check out Ben Edgington’s quick report. explainer of genesis.

The launch of Medalla is an important milestone in the development of eth2 – if Medalla proves stable, the mainnet launch will be next – and represents years of hard work by countless engineers, researchers and team members. the community. We hope you are as excited as we are :).

Remember that the vast majority of validators in the Medalla testnet are managed by you, the community. We’re counting on you to treat this as a dress rehearsal for the mainnet launch: get your nodes running well in advance, keep an eye on your validator performance, and be on the lookout for any critical updates to the your client’s software (in other cases). in other words, treat your testnet validators as if they were securing real ETH).

Diversity of customers 👯‍♀️

The community will work five different clients at Genesis!

A huge congratulations to each of these teams. If you use any of the clients above, be sure to thank the client team and consider depositing some ETH or DAI into their tipjars. They more than deserved it.

Don’t forget! Medalla has special POAP NFT to run each client type at launch. Read on the details here 🏅

In addition to the extraordinary work carried out by the eth2 client teams, I would like to highlight ethstaker — a growing user-focused resource for the young validator community. This community effort aims to provide a home for the staking enthusiast community in the form of a subreddit And discord server.

I spent some time on Discord last week, and it’s a great place to share information, ask (and answer!) technical questions, and generally just collaborate around the new and exciting technology of staking eth2. If you are betting on Medalla or want to get involved, be sure to take a look.

I’m waiting ethstakeras well as client-specific discords, are a must-have for validators looking to stay up to date on all things validator related.

mc-attack-0 launch of Attacknet

mc-attack-0a new multi-client attack network, launched Today!

This new attack network falls under the beta-1 categorization with updated rules and increased bounties — up to $15,000 for critical exploits.

Since the launch of the first beta-0 Attacknets, we rewarded the following attacks:

  • $5,000 awarded to Jonny Rhea for his performance a simple DoS attack on teku-attack-0highlighting some basic DoS protections missing in JVM-libp2p
  • 🏆💪🐿 awarded to Martin Swende for finding a critical bug in Prysm SSZ decodingwhich allowed a remote attacker to crash nodes on prism-attack-0 (no monetary reward because Martin works on security at the EF)
  • $5,000 awarded to AlexSSD7 for his performance an L4 DDoS on prism-attack-0stopping finality on the 4-node network and highlighting a clock skew that was preventing nodes from repairing themselves after the attack
  • $1,000 awarded (honorable mention) to Jonny Rhea for remove discovery mechanism In lighthouse-attack-0

As always, join us in the Eth R&D Discord Channel #attacknet for discussions and tips to get started 🚀
