Ethereum Bridge Users Have 24 Hours to Exit Before Chain Shuts Down After Just 5 Weeks of Warning

Powerloom, a blockchain network built for decentralized data infrastructure, is scheduled to shut down permanently at 6:00 UTC on July 21. Users with POWER or other transferable assets still held on the network have less than 24 hours to move them to Ethereum as of press time.

Currently, the official Powerloom termination page states that the bridge is active. The latest reminder of the project asked users to initiate a withdrawal via the official bridge and finalize the claim on Ethereum before the deadline.

The bridge only covers balances already available for transfer on Powerloom. Reward claims, stake removal, and node burns were closed when mint.powerloom.network was taken offline at 6:00 UTC on July 16.

Powerloom indicates that unclaimed rewards, staked POWER, or node slot funds that were still dependent on these dashboard workflows can no longer be recovered. The remaining eligible group is holders with on-chain liquid balances; Users waiting for complaints or opt-out have no recovery path.

Swell warned users to opt out by June 23, turning a planned L2 shutdown into a test of user exit procedures.

What disappears after the deadline

Powerloom says the chain will stop producing blocks at shutdown. Contracts and state on the network will become inaccessible and the Arbitrum-based bridge will stop working because it will no longer have a mining source chain to connect to.

This dependence constitutes the largest risk behind the delay. A bridge only works as long as both sides of a transfer remain available. When an underlying chain is removed, the egress route may disappear even if the destination network continues to operate. In the case of Powerloom, balances left behind may become blocked due to the inaccessible state of the chain.

The incident forced users to question the part of cumulative security that usually remains invisible: whether they can still opt out if the bridge layer breaks.

POWER held by Ethereum remains separate from the shutdown. Powerloom says its ERC-20 contract is up 0x429F0d8233e517f9acf6F0C8293BF35804063a83 is immutable and will remain accessible on-chain. The deadline applies to assets and application status left on Powerloom, including balances that are not filled on time. The POWER contract already deployed on the Ethereum network falls outside this deadline.

In a closing announcement on June 15, Powerloom’s founders said they concluded the project lacked a sustainable operating model, continued ecosystem demand, and sufficient resources to support the network over the long term.

The founders said:

“After careful consideration of the path forward for Powerloom, I and Swaroop have decided to terminate Powerloom.

This is not the result we wanted. Powerloom started with a clear belief: on-chain applications must have access to reliable, verifiable, and decentralized data infrastructure. Over the years, the team and community have helped bring this vision to life through several phases: testnet, mainnet, snapshot participation, data markets, validation infrastructure, and developer products.

It’s a bittersweet goodbye for both of us founders, and hopefully for some of the friends we’ve made along the way. “

Prior to cessation, Powerloom launched its decentralized sequencer-validator network and BDS data marketplace, alongside an infrastructure of snapshots, validators, and developers.

Affected users now face a fixed deadline: move transferable assets to Ethereum and complete the claim by 6:00 UTC on July 21, or lose access when the Powerloom chain and its bridge shut down.
