Ethereum defines the date of December for the Pivot Fusaka upgrade

The main developers of Ethereum have mapped a launch window for the upgrade of Fusaka for a long time, the Mainnet activation was placed on December 3.

The program draft, shared during the call of basic developers of September 17 (ACDC), still requires final confirmation, but it signals a growing momentum towards one of the most important technical revisions of Ethereum.

The deployment will start on stages test networks. Holesky should upgrade on October 1, followed by Sepolia on October 14 and Hoodi on October 28. Provided that these rehearsals are going well, the changes will be ready to migrate to the main network of Ethereum in December.

Blob forks in phase

Christine Kim, former research vice-president at Galaxy Digital, stressed that network developers will continue to refine the dates, eras and calendar in the coming weeks.

She added:

“They also agreed that on the basis of a preliminary analysis on Fusaka Devnet-5, the Blob capacity should more than double during the two weeks following the activation of Fusaka.”

Blobs, introduced via EIP-4844, are temporary chain data containers that allow layer 2 Rollups to publish transaction data in Ethereum at a lower cost. Unlike the permanent call data, the Blobs expire after about two weeks, helping to reduce storage requests while maintaining data integrity.

This mechanism is designed to reduce costs for rolls and improve Ethereum’s scalability.

To minimize risks, Ethereum developers have agreed to gradually deploy via the Blob parameters (BPO) parameters. Thus, instead of increasing blob capacity in a single step, the thresholds will be increased in phases.

Consequently, the first BPO fork, expected on December 17, will increase the Blob targets from 6/9 to 10/15. A second fork on January 7, 2026 will push these limits to 14/21.

Meanwhile, the imminent deployment of Fusaka was announced only a few days after the Ethereum Foundation launched a security competition of $ 2 million. The initiative, hosted on Sherlock Testnet from September 15 to October 13, encourages researchers to identify vulnerabilities in upgrading.

To encourage early participation, the results subject to the first week earn double points, while the second -week bids qualify for a 1.5x multiplier.
