Ethereum Dev Federico Carrone has been detained in Türkiye for an alleged ties to a confidentiality tool, but is now free. He thinks that the case stems from previous research on Tornado Treasury. However, the legal question remains unresolved.
Basic developer Ethereum (ETH), Federico Carrone (known as “Fede trainee” on X) is “safe and free” after spending 24 hours in Turkey on alleged ties to an Ethereum confidentiality protocol.
His release comes after a rapid intervention by friends and contacts worldwide.
However, the judicial case against him remains unresolved.
The detention of Ethereum Dev in Türkiye ends
Carrone said the Turkish Minister for Internal Affairs accused her of “helping others abuse Ethereum” through a confidentiality tool.
He thinks that the accusation arises from a search document in January 2022 which he co-written on Ethereum and Tornado Cash Privacy.

He said,
“We never helped anyone engage in an illegal activity, it was a purely research on mixers and their properties.”
The incident added to growing concerns about the treatment of developers working on open source privacy protocols.
The co-founders of Tornado Cash Alexey Pertsey and Roman Storm faced similar legal battles, with Storm while waiting for a verdict in a high-level American trial that could create a precedent for the sector.
Global support and release
We told Carrone that he would lose access to his phone and communication. But in a few hours, friends of water, the United Kingdom, the United States, Europe, Argentina (and even from the Catholic Church) intervened.
Some have directly contacted the senior Turkish officials. Thanking those who stood next to him, said Carrone,
“I will never forget it. I hope to be able to give back to all those who helped me. ”
Even members of the Solana (soil) ecosystem offered assistance, a rare unit demonstration between blockchain communities.
Carrone has since moved to Europe
Although free, the case is still active in Türkiye. His lawyer builds a defense and he did not exclude returning to erase his name.
“We still do not have the complete image of what happened or why it happened, but we will bring the best team that we can and solve this problem.

Wider heating and ethn donation
Carrone’s test reflects a broader repression of privacy developers, which raises urgent questions about the publication or contribution of open source confidentiality tools could be criminalized.
In a demonstration of solidarity, Carrone donated $ 500,000 in ETH to the legal defense of Roman Storm.
Speaking of generous support, He said,
“The legal defense of novels, because manufacturers around the world must know that they can advance innovation and that the community will hold them behind them when they do.”
