Ethereum managed to surpass the psychologically important $3,000 level, providing a brief sense of relief after weeks of squeeze and indecision. While this development marks a constructive near-term development, price action remains far from the technical thresholds required to fully re-establish a broader uptrend.
Against this backdrop, on-chain and derivatives data is starting to show subtle but notable changes. A CryptoQuant analysis reveals that Ethereum’s 14-day moving average of taker buy/sell ratio on Binance climbed to 1.005, its highest reading since July. A ratio above 1 indicates that aggressive buy orders in the market are outweighing sell orders, indicating increasing bullish intent among derivatives traders.
The report explains that ETH remains significantly below its previous cycle highs, meaning this increase in aggressive buying is not a reaction to strong bullish momentum. Instead, it suggests early positioning or accumulation behavior, in which market participants enter ahead of a potential directional move rather than chasing prices.
However, the optimism generated by derivatives alone is not enough to confirm a trend reversal. For Ethereum to move from recovery to sustainable upside, this growing aggression must be accompanied by stronger spot demand and a decisive recovery from higher resistance levels.
Aggressiveness on derivatives is increasing, but confirmation remains crucial
The analysis adds that, historically, extended periods in which Ethereum’s buy/sell taker ratio remains above 1, particularly when reinforced by an ascending moving average, have often aligned with phases of increasing bullish volatility or early attempts at trend reversals.
This behavior reflects a growing sense of urgency among buyers who are willing to execute at market prices rather than wait for pullbacks, a dynamic typically associated with improving sentiment and changing expectations.

However, this signal comes with important caveats. The taker call/put ratio is primarily a derivatives-driven metric, and high buying pressure in leveraged markets does not automatically translate into a sustainable rally.
Without spot market confirmation, such as increased spot volumes, net FX outflows, or sustained on-chain accumulation, price reactions driven by derivatives activity may fade quickly. In the past, highly leveraged positioning produced brief bullish moves that were then reversed when real capital inflows failed to materialize.
Currently, the structure suggests that aggressive buying pressure is indeed developing in the Ethereum derivatives market. This increases the likelihood of a recovery attempt, particularly if traders continue to position proactively rather than reactively.
Still, confirmation will depend on price tracking above key resistance levels and aligning with broader indicators regarding spot demand, on-chain activity, and overall market liquidity.
Ethereum price faces a key test
Ethereum moved back above the $3,000 level, providing a short-term relief bounce after weeks of compression and lower highs. However, the broader structure remains fragile. On the daily chart, ETH is still trading below its falling 100- and 200-day moving averages, which continue to act as dynamic resistance and define the dominant downtrend to neutral.

The recent decision seems more corrective than impulsive. Price action shows shallow tracking, with limited volume expansion, suggesting buyers are cautious rather than aggressive. Although reclaiming $3,000 is symbolically important, Ethereum has repeatedly failed to gain acceptance from this area since November, reinforcing it as a pivot rather than confirmed support.
Structurally, ETH remains stuck in a wide range between around $2,800 and $3,400. The lower boundary has attracted dip buyers, but rallies continue to stall before reaching previous breakout levels. This trend reflects a market in equilibrium, in which neither bulls nor bears have enough conviction to force a trend.
The momentum indicators implied by price behavior indicate stabilization and not a trend reversal. For Ethereum to return to a sustained uptrend, it would need to reclaim the $3,300-$3,500 region and hold above the long-term moving averages with expanding volume.
