Over the past few months, the global non-fungible token market has evolved from a speculative art to a utility-driven ecosystem focused on digital ownership, identity and real-world use cases such as gaming, ticketing and credentialing, with growth in other areas such as AI, real-world assets and fractional ownership. Unfortunately, Ferrari has not yet noticed this great reality and has decided to launch a digital hypercar that will only exist as a collection of non-fungible tokens.

Ferrari launches NFT car collection
In an October 27 publication, Reuters confirmed that Ferrari had launched a non-fungible token series called F76. The Ferrari F76 is a collection of non-fungible tokens that takes the form of a concept car. This NFT collection is created to pay homage to Ferrari’s first victory at Le Mans in 1949, 76 years ago. While presenting its non-fungible token project, motorsport company Ferrari explained:
The F76 is not a production car, but a pioneering virtual project that combines Ferrari’s racing tradition with the innovation of generative design and digital technologies, opening a new frontier in the brand experience. Designed for customers of the exclusive Hyperclub program, the F76 is one of the digital assets of the initiative created by the Maranello company to support the 499P competing at Le Mans and in the World Endurance Championship, allowing customers to experience this journey alongside the official team.
Ferrari is an Italian luxury sports car manufacturer renowned for producing high-performance, stylish and expensive cars and for its legendary success in motorsport, particularly in Formula One, where it is the oldest and most successful racing team. Ferrari is not new to NFTs and has been offering NFTs to its most exclusive clientele since at least 2022. Ferrari offered NFTs through its Hyperclub program, but on a private and limited basis.
Ferrari receives a lot of criticism
Ferrari received massive criticism from the cryptocurrency and non-fungible token communities shortly after announcing the launch of its latest collection of non-fungible tokens. The majority of crypto and NFT traders have argued that Ferrari is outdated for launching a series of non-fungible tokens that is not a real car, or even a real physical concept. Many argue that Ferrari should understand that the global non-fungible token market has evolved from a speculative art to a utility-driven ecosystem.

The Ferrari NFT launch comes just days after BMW, its rival in the luxury car manufacturing sector, and the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collaborated for BMW’s “Apecar”, special experiences at the annual ApeFest events in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The vehicle was built on a BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupe and featured a custom monkey-inspired exterior design by a BAYC artist named Rida.
From Vegas to Los Angeles. 6 hours, 3 playlists, too many snack stops and Ape fam. 🫶🏻
Just good music, stupid jokes and a BMW that made every mile a memory.
