FIFA, the International Director of Football, makes an important step in its web3 route by announcing a new blockchain network compatible with the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM).

The update, published on April 30 via the FAQ Collect FIFA, describes the plans to migrate the NFT collection platform of the football organization, FIFA collecting, of the Algorand network at the next owner blockchain.

FIFA said:

“After migration, Pera, Profly and other wallets based on Algorands will no longer be supported. You can rather connect to the FIFA collection using Metamask or any EVM portfolio which supports WalletConnect.”

FIFA has not yet confirmed a fixed launch date, but has assured users that more details will soon be published. However, migration is temporarily scheduled as soon as possible on May 20.

FIFA Collect allows football fans to get involved in sport thanks to digital articles related to tournaments and exclusive experiences from the real world. The platform also works as a market, and recent updates have introduced new collection packages that offer tangible advantages, including VIP access to certain football events.

FIFA EVM compatible blockchain

FIFA’s decision to adopt an EVM compatible chain reflects a broader strategy to adopt decentralized technology and increase the flexibility of networks.

According to FIFA, the initiative is a step towards activating the interoperability of the portfolio and the creation of space for future innovation in the commitment of digital fans.

He continued that the next platform will benefit from greater compatibility with the main blockchain ecosystems and an improvement in user features.

In addition, the new blockchain will offer faster performance, support for deployment of future functionalities and a more evolving base for continuous development.

FIFA has also said that the overall user experience of its next blockchain platform will remain familiar and that users can expect progressive improvements as new tools and options are introduced.

Meanwhile, FIFA said it would soon share more technical details on the imminent blockchain network.
