Kiln🧱🔥 is online, take a look

A week ago, the Kiln🧱🔥 testnet went through the Merge transition to evolve from a PoW testnet to a fully functional PoS testnet.

If you run validators on Mainnet, now is the time to test your post-merge configurations. Jump into the Oven Home Page and dig.

Seriously. It’s time.

#TestingTheMerge is in full swing. Get involved!

The transition from PoW to PoS on Kiln was not without its problems. Due to an encoding error, Prysm was produce invalid blockswhile some runtime clients had other sync-related errors during the transition.

Although the client features are now complete and almost production ready, minor software bugs still appear here and there. While these aren’t fundamental issues related to specs and core research, it goes back to something we’ve been saying for quite a long time: security and testing will be the long tail defining the final release date of Merge.

To that end, customer teams, security researchers, and testers are ramping up their efforts to test on all fronts over the next 4 weeks in preparation for the public testnet upgrade. These efforts include hive essay, Flattening testnet versions, Antithesis coverage-guided network fuzzing, Goerli and Mainnet shadow-forking, manual code review, stack fuzzing, improved consensus testing, and much more!

On the fuzzing front, we would like to warmly welcome Demon Block for providing the fusion testing effort with $900,000 in IBM Cloud credits! Fuzzing involves dedicating more resources to the problem than your opponent, so with these credits, we’re confident we can squash every bug there is to find. Thank you 🙏

Get involved!

The #TestingTheMerge effort is in full swing. Whether it’s running a validator on Kiln, testing your development workflow, writing a tutorial, improving documentation, or creating an exotic new fuzzer, every👏last👏bit👏 counts👏 !

This is the largest blockchain upgrade ever. Period. So do your part to make it a success – join us in the Discord R&D Eth in the Merge channel #testing 🚀
