  • The merger will take place soon! This message explains how and when the upgrade will take place, as well as which client versions are compatible with it.
  • Kiln, an Ethereum merger testnet launching in early 2022, will be shut down during the week of September 12, 2022.
  • Ropsten and Rinkeby are also obsolete and are expected to cease in the fourth quarter of 2022 and the third quarter of 2023, respectively.
  • Users and developers should migrate to Goerli & Sepolia, which will continue to be maintained and upgraded to reflect changes to the Ethereum mainnet in the near future.

As previously announcedthe Kiln, Ropsten and Rinkeby test networks are now deprecated and will be closed over the next few months.

Kiln, which was launched with the aim of testing Ethereum post-merge before existing test networks merge, will be shut down. in the week of September 12, 2022. Although anyone can run a node on the network, seed nodes and validators managed by customers and test teams, as well as infrastructure providers, will be disabled at this point. This follows the timeline presented in the depreciation announcement linked above.

Ropsten and Rinkeby are also considered obsolete, with a closure date in Q4 2022 and Q2 2023 respectively. Although the networks will remain active until then, infrastructure providers may gradually restrict or remove access to these networks in a shorter period of time.

Users and developers should migrate to Goerli and/or Sepolia, both of which are expected to be maintained and upgraded in line with Ethereum mainnet changes in the near future.

Expect further announcements on this blog before the closures of Ropsten and Rinkeby.

Farewell Kiln, you lived up to your name 🔥🧱
