How diverse is too diverse?

I assume it’s possible to be spread too thinly if one buys too many different coins. I wondered if there was a consensus on how broadly someone should spread their portfolio. For me I’m up to about 20 coins, a mix of what I’d consider solid, promising, meme and a couple of speculative moonshots.

I see the term maxxi thrown around, is this a case of all eggs in one basket?

One consideration that has been weighing on my mind as I DCA my way to or from sanity is on some of the smaller coins, only taking 1% of my monthly amount I am being eaten alive by fees. I do buy USDT then use my exchange to convert for ‘free’ but I am suspicious of just how free that really is.

And yes, I know an exchange isn’t a safe place to hodl, when a coin gets to $1000 it gets shifted to a hardware wallet.

Apologies if this contravenes the subreddit rules, I did have a skim and realise this could be considered a self post.
