The Business Incubation Centre of the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIML-EIC) has announced the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Blockchain Technology (CoE-BT), with the support of the Uttar Pradesh government under its StartInUP policy.

This initiative aims to foster innovation and entrepreneurship by supporting 100 blockchain startups over the next five years.

The CoE-BT aims to promote advancements in blockchain technology, aligning with the state government’s goals of improving e-governance through increased trust, transparency and reliability across various sectors. The centre will serve as a catalyst for technological innovation, providing startups with critical resources and support.

Professor Ashish Dubey, Faculty Head, IIML-EIC, highlighted the importance of the collaboration with Microsoft India, which will play a key role in identifying new opportunities and supporting innovations in the blockchain sector. This partnership is expected to help startups stay ahead in the rapidly evolving blockchain landscape.

The CoE-BT will provide a range of support services including:

  • Mentoring: Access to advice from over 50 industry and academic experts.
  • Industry Connections: Networking opportunities with key players in the blockchain space.
  • Venture capital funding: financial support to help startups grow their businesses.
  • Specialized training: programs for students and budding entrepreneurs to develop expertise in blockchain applications.

In addition to its central operations, CoE-BT will establish three awareness centres at Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Greater Noida/Meerut. These centres will work to promote and nurture blockchain-based innovation across Uttar Pradesh, thereby contributing to a robust ecosystem for emerging technologies.

Overall, the Centre of Excellence in Blockchain Technology will serve as an important resource and technology development hub, aimed at advancing Uttar Pradesh’s technological capabilities and fostering a thriving blockchain ecosystem.
