Cardano (ADA) Is Amid New Security Concerns After Gigantic SecondFi Exploit Worth Watching $2.4 million. However, ADA traders do not seem shaken at all!
SecondFi Shuts Down After 16.1 Million ADA Theft
SecondFi shuts down operations after theft by attackers 16.1 million ADA, worth approximately $2.4 millionSince 374 wallets. The flaw stemmed from a flaw in the wallet’s transaction signing software.
The flaw allowed attackers to derive private keys from transaction signature data, giving them access to affected wallets. It is important to note that the Cardano network was not breached and hardware wallet users were not affected.
…given the seriousness of this event and as previously announced, we have made the difficult decision to terminate the SecondFi and Yoroi wallets.
SecondFi fixed the vulnerability and secured 129 million ADA before the attackers can reach it, but the service will not resume normal operations. It plans to release wallet export tools in early August, followed by a zero-knowledge recovery portal later in the month.
Blockchain intelligence firm Groom Lake has found signs that could point to the North Korean Lazarus Group, but no links have been confirmed. Another attacker also targeted other wallets during the same period.
ADA Holds, Derivatives Traders Keep Their Positions Open
ADA was trading nearby $0.17 at the time of writing, with no notable sales following news of the SecondFi wallet theft. On the daily chart, the token was at $0.1725down slightly during the session. ADA had already retreated from its rise at the beginning of July around $0.19but has since recovered and remained stable.
The RSI indicated a balanced pace, with a slight positive tilt.

The derivatives figures appear equally unchanged. Aggregate open interest rose above $210 million before settling nearby $206.3 million. At the same time, the average funding rate proved that long traders were still willing to pay to keep their positions open.

Traders did not rush to reduce leveraged exposure following the exploit; however, they seem measured in their approach.
Just an isolated wallet problem?
The exploit exposed private key material, affected 374 wallets, and led to the shutdown of SecondFi. The involvement of a second attacker and the possible (but unconfirmed) link to the Lazarus group add to things.
While there is no evidence that the vulnerability extends beyond SecondFi, the incident highlights the importance of ongoing security reviews across the entire Cardano wallet ecosystem.
Final summary
- SecondFi shuts down after signature flaw leads to the theft of 16.1 million ADA.
- ADA held its price, there was no widespread bearish reaction.
