This sub isn’t very fond of memecoins, but there are a few of us here.
We are now in the 3rd memecoin winter, and after the Oct 10 lows, we’re picking up steam again, with more tokens deployed, more graduating, and higher volume. Tokenized communities end up being stickers then jpegs.

Everyone talks about 10000x and pnl ss, but very few talk about survival. After trading memecoins for over two years, one thing has become painfully clear to me: capital preservation is the real edge, not finding the next 67.
Personally, I started with roughly 40 sol but stuck to 5% risk per trade (2 sol per trade). While making a tutorial on memecoin trading, I debated what the absolute minimum is to survive in the trenches.
Besides ruggers, drainers, and extractors, memecoin trading has a lot of taxes that compound. It’s not just buy and hope. Every trade is taxed by reality. You pay trading fees, terminal fees, priority fees, bribes, failed transactions, slippage, and opportunity cost. All of that adds up very quickly. When learning and starting with only 10 sol (~$1.3k), traders often forget to adjust their axiom buy/sell filters, and fees eat their sol.
Over time, it becomes obvious that undercapitalization is the number one reason people fail. Trading with tiny size forces you into bad decisions. You chase harder, hold longer, and gamble more because the math no longer works. That’s why I believe 10 sol is the minimum threshold to trade memecoins seriously. If you don’t have 10 sol that you’re fully prepared to lose, you probably shouldn’t be trading memecoins at all.
With 10 sol, trading 0.2 sol per trade makes sense. That’s roughly 2% risk per trade. You can get rugged 50 times straight. You can learn how narratives move, how liquidity behaves, and how social signals evolve without blowing up your stack in a single afternoon. Survival gives you time, and time is the only thing that compounds in this market.
Some KOLs advise against such small numbers and say to get a job instead. No comments. Others say they grew small stacks into meaningful ones. Maybe they did. But the real question is whether that’s repeatable without pure luck. Is it realistic to grow from very small size once fees and bribes are factored in?
I’m curious where others land on this. We aren’t getting many $10m mooners these days. Is 10 sol truly enough to learn the ropes? Is 0.2 sol the right position size once all costs are considered? And more importantly, should capital preservation be the primary goal in memecoin trading, or is that mindset incompatible with the market itself?
