Michael Saylor Teases Bitcoin Buying, But Bulls Could Get Less

Michael Saylor hinted at another strategic Bitcoin purchase ahead of the company’s expected update on Monday.

Summary

  • Saylor hinted at another Bitcoin purchase after Strategy increased its holdings to 815,061 BTC last week.
  • Analysts expect more modest buying as MSTR stock issuance halted while shares were trading below par.
  • The strategy still has ATM capacity, but funding conditions may limit the size of Bitcoin accumulation in the short term.

The strategist posted his usual Sunday cue on X, writing: “The ₿eat Goes On.” The post gained attention because Strategy made a large purchase of Bitcoin last week. The company added 34,164 BTC, bringing its total holdings to 815,061 BTC.

Market observers are not expecting another billion-dollar Bitcoin purchase this time around. The latest report indicates that Strategy’s main funding avenue slowed after MSTR-related issuance was paused during the week.

The company has often used stock sales to fund Bitcoin purchases. However, the report states that the funding engine weakened as MSTR traded at $99.46, slightly below par.

This situation could limit the amount of Bitcoin Strategy that can be purchased in the next update. Saylor often avoided issuing stock when market conditions could harm existing shareholders.

The strategy evaluates financing options

The strategy still has other funding avenues available. The company retains approximately $26.7 billion of common stock capacity through its go-to-market program.

This tool allows the company to sell shares when conditions permit. The strategy can only use the program when the stock is trading at a large premium to its Bitcoin holdings.

The report also cites SATA, or Strive Series A, as another small funding source. It indicated that only 0.72 BTC was acquired through SATA-related activities this week.

Bitcoin Strategy Comes Under New Scrutiny

The expected update comes as Strategy’s Bitcoin treasury model is the subject of increased public debate. Proponents see the model as a long-term Bitcoin accumulation plan.

Critics say the model depends on consistent access to capital markets. They argue that weaker funding conditions could slow future Bitcoin purchases or increase pressure on the company’s balance sheet.

Last week’s buying showed that Strategy can still add large amounts of Bitcoin when funding conditions allow. This week’s update could show whether the company has moved to a more selective pace.
