(PRESS RELEASE – Los Angeles, California, October 21, 2024)
NFL Rivals, the officially licensed video game of the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association, has launched its ‘Monster Smash 2′, Halloween program, which allows players to take on challenges and compete to “rewrite history” with its first NFL legend, former NFL MVP Adrian Peterson, in a series monstrous performances playing the ball carrier.
Simply, the program will focus on current NFL players who have had excellent performances in October in the past, with Adrian being the exception. There will be players in packs, currency events during the week, “main events” on the weekends, a Power Pass, and the program store available with the usual legendary, epic, and rare players.
However, Adrian’s editions will be featured throughout the game – in the form of a “free” gift, a Battle Pass reward, and the two main rewards in the program’s history: the Legendary and Mythical Player. Both rewards will be purchasable exclusively using “Candies”, but players will only be able to purchase one, not both.
The Halloween program lasts four weeks and contains 40 steps. Rewards throughout the Battle Pass include Coins, Gems, Training Resources, Player Cards, PFPs, as well as an exclusive Epic Reward Player at the end of the paid course. This exclusive player of this promo will be Adrian Peterson.
The program launched on Thursday, October 17 at 8:00 AM PT and is scheduled to run through Thursday, November 14 at 8:00 AM PT, with winners earning exclusive rewards for completing challenges.
Monster Smash 2 program launched
The Monster Smash 2 program gives players a chance to participate in events and challenges and earn “candy” – the driving currency of the game. “Candy” can be used to unlock special Halloween players (those who have had monstrous performances in October in the past) and Adrian Peterson special cards.
Similar to previous programs, NFL Players will have a core group of players in packs and “chase” players in events; but with some differences. Packs will include 8 Legendary, 8 Epic, and up to 10 Rare players, plus seven additional players who will be featured in weekend events and the Promo Store.
To be clearer, the seven “chase” players are not available in packs. Four players will be released as rewards from the weekend event and three in the promotional store on which users can spend their “Candy” currency – rare, epic, legendary. This allows players to unlock some of the best players in the game and advance their challenge series.
Adrian Peterson will also see several editions awarded in different areas of the program. Players will have the chance to relive some of Peterson’s most legendary moments through themed “Challenges.”
First, each player level that logs in will be able to claim a “Base Card”, which is a free reward on the first “Challenges” node. Second, players can collect the “Rare NAT” edition, a rare non-tradable edition that will be rewarded upon completion of the program’s “Challenges” quick game. Players can also claim the “Epic LE” edition as a reward upon completion of the Battle Pass.
Finally, players can also purchase two top tier cards (Adrian Peterson editions) – Legendary and Mythic for candy in the promotional store.
Tasks and challenges in Monster Smash 2
As noted, players will have 40 stages to complete in 4 weeks, helping them earn promotional XP that will allow them to progress through the Rewards battle pass. Some change daily while others have longer durations. While QB passing is the primary profession in the game, Monster Smash 2 will focus heavily on execution duties, hence the need for players to have Adrian Peterson editions at the RB position.
Events will continue to focus on currency collection events during the week, then player-specific “main events” during the weekend. Currency collection events will take place twice a week, with different requirements each time, and will primarily reward different volumes of program currencies to help spend on rewards in the Promo Store. The main events will be the most competitive areas of the game and feature some of the best players on the Halloween schedule, not including Adrian Peterson. The final Mythic Event provides an additional bonus depending on which version of Adrian Peterson you have in your roster.
The program will also include 10 running challenges that will relive some of the greatest moments of Adrian Peterson’s career or rewrite history by overcoming some of his failures. Some of the challenges include the game-winning TD in Week 10 of 2008 against the Green Bay Packers, the 2009 NFC Championship against the New Orleans Saints, the comeback in Week 13 of 2013 against the Chicago Bears, the loss of the NFC Wild Card in 2012 against the GB Packers and a final challenge, the 2007 single-game rushing record that saw him run for 296 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Once the “Adrian Peterson Challenge” is completed, users will receive his RARE card as a final reward, which can help them during “Beast Events” to attempt to win its more powerful editions. Any additional rewards between challenges should include RB Training Points to help users upgrade their new AP editions.
Finally, the Halloween program will also introduce a brand new spooky stadium, as well as strange card effects and even camera shakes when using a version of Adrian Peterson.
