Pi Network’s next big update might not arrive on time (again)

Here’s what early adopters need to know about the new update and when it should roll out.

Despite pricing challenges for the underlying asset and growing community uncertainty regarding some of its features and lack of improvement, the core team behind the controversial project is continuing with its scheduled protocol updates.

In their most recent article on X, they explained when the new upgrade should be implemented, but also warned that it could face a similar delay as the previous one.

The Pi Mainnet switches to protocol 25.
Deadline: June 18.

All mainnet nodes must complete this step before the deadline to remain connected to the network. This upgrade takes longer. Plan accordingly.

Details here:

– Pi Network (@PiCoreTeam) June 9, 2026

Remember that major updates to the protocol began in February with the introduction of version 19.6. The next versions, v19.9, v20.2, v22 and v23, arrived as the months of the new year progressed. Most of them were implemented on time, leaving little doubt among its vast community.

Then came the transition to version 24 of the protocol. The team said it was expected to be deployed by May 15. However, they noted a week after that deadline that it proved to be “one of the most difficult” to date because it “involved several subsystem upgrades and optimizations that required internal data reprocessing.”

In early June, however, the team managed to work around all the issues and declared that version 24 had been successfully implemented. They also set the deadline for the next one, which, as mentioned above, is June 18.

As with previous protocol updates, the team reminded all mainnet nodes to complete this step before this deadline to stay connected to the network. However, they also warned that, as with v24, it could take longer to roll out.
