The crypto newslet observer widely followed. Guru confirmed that his official account X had been hacked after a false post on a potential agreement between Ripple and Swift distributed on his social networks, potentially affecting XRP.
The violation took place on March 21 around 2:05 am UTC, when an unauthorized post said that Swift was about to finalize an agreement with Ripple to use XRP for cross -border payments.
Watcher.guru quickly deleted the position and published a statement specifying that the complaint was false and not made by its editorial team.
“Our X account has been hacked,” said the point of sale in a follow -up article. “We have activated 2FA and took extreme measures to avoid hacks.”
Watcher.guru hack triggers the dissemination of false XRP news
Despite these precautions, the violation led to the automatic republication of false information on Watcher.guru Telegram, Facebook and Discord channels due to a bot of multiplatform content.
The platform team is currently working with X support to investigate the source of the attack and prevent other incidents.
They suspect that the violation can be linked to a suspicious link shared in their telegram group on March 5.
The message contained an unusual “token” request chain in the link, which raised suspicion with hindsight.
The team attempted to alert Xbersecurity chief of X, @cstanley, but received no response.
It is not clear if the malicious link and hacking are directly connected.
However, Watcher.Guru noted that a similar feat had previously affected another crypto media, DB News, suggesting a wider model of targeted attacks against prominent cryptographic media accounts – even those protected by two -factor authentication.
At the time of the report, Watcher.guru did not determine the exact method used in the violation, but reassured subscribers that all the unauthorized content has been deleted and that the account is now secure.
They have also undertaken to publish other updates once more information is available.
The incident highlights a broader trend of social media hacks focused on crypto, many of which are used to pump newly launched coins.
In February, Dior’s Instagram account was diverted to promote a false token -based token, which briefly reached a market capitalization of $ 280,000 before hunting 90%.
Last week, Kaito AI, a platform focused on artificial intelligence providing an analysis of the cryptographic market, and its founder, Yu Hu, were also targeted in a social media piracy on X.
The pirates took control of the account and falsely claimed that Kaito AI portfolios had been compromised, warning users that their funds were in danger.

In January, the losses recorded amounted to $ 73,915,700. A month later, this figure increased to $ 1,528,342,400. The latter is the result of nine hacks.
In addition, the February number is an increase of 18x compared to the same period a year earlier. In February 2024, the losses recorded were $ 81,603,400.
