Ammon Simon has been named chief counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, according to his announcement on LinkedIn.

Simon previously served as legal counsel to SEC Commissioner Hester M. Peirce, where he focused on regulatory policies relating to crypto assets and emerging financial technologies.

During his tenure at the SEC, he worked to facilitate dialogue between the agency and industry stakeholders on issues such as protecting client assets.

His previous roles include serving as chief of staff and senior counsel to the general counsel at the Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Trump administration.

He also worked as a banking advisor to Senator Ben Sasse, where he provided advice on financial market regulation.

Simon holds a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School and a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Wheaton College, where he was an FPE scholar studying faith, politics and economics.

The Senate Banking Committee is currently working on legislative initiatives to integrate digital assets into traditional financial systems.

Simon’s appointment comes as the committee addresses regulatory frameworks for the crypto sector.
