Re.xyz announces the next token generation event for the RE token, the governance instrument of an internet-native insurance capital market that carries a multi-billion dollar business pipeline.
The Resilience Foundation today confirmed that the Token Generation Event (TGE) for the RE token will take place soon. RE is Re’s native insurance capital market governance token on the internet and will launch on the Ethereum mainnet as an ERC-20 token. RE will give holders a role in governing the rules, standards and shared infrastructure of a reinsurance market that already operates at scale.
An already large-scale market
Re’s reinsurance arm, Cover Re, already works with more than 30 insurance partners. Each treaty is fully collateralized, with institutional and on-chain capital flowing through the protocol, reflecting both the scale of existing activities and growth potential:
-
Hundreds of thousands of American policyholders reinsured
-
~4,000 on-chain participants providing capital to the protocol
-
$226 million in premiums written to date for 2026
-
Actively evaluating reinsurance opportunities underway with multi-billion dollar insurance partners
-
$409 million in premiums written to date
-
Operating in a global reinsurance market of approximately $1 trillion
Current reinsurance capacity is concentrated in a small handful of large carriers. When these carriers pull out, capacity can disappear in a single renewal cycle: insurers who rely on them scramble for coverage, prices rise, and policyholders bear the cost. Re replaces this architecture with an open and transparent market where capital and risk meet on disclosed terms, governed by participants who depend on its integrity.
“Reinsurance is one of the largest and least understood markets in the world. For decades, it has operated through close relationships and opaque standards. We built Re to change that, to create a market that is open, transparent, and governed by the people who rely on it. TGE is the moment when the governance of this market moves from the hands of a single sponsor to those of a community. The RE token is the instrument that makes this possible.” – Karn Saroya, Managing Director, D
Why Onchain governance for reinsurance
Global reinsurance is a $700 billion market governed largely by boards, regulators, rating agencies and private bodies that decide who can participate, what standards they must meet and how shared infrastructure is financed. These institutions served the market well, but they were built for a slower economy; and by design they are closed.
Re builds a transparent and programmable version of this governance layer. Significant changes can be proposed, debated and recorded on-chain. The people who set the rules are the same people whose participation depends on the credibility of those rules: a more durable alignment of interests than a closed board of directors can produce.
What’s next
Full details about the token generation event, including governance scope, participation requirements, and token economics, will be shared in the next official launch announcement. In the meantime, those interested in following along should visit government.re.xyz.
