Its USD-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, has been recognized as an accepted Fiat-referenced token by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) in Abu Dhabi.

This approval allows RLUSD to be used within the Abu Dhabi Global Market, the city’s international financial center. It can be used by authorized companies that meet compliance requirements.

Regulatory recognition builds trust

The FSRA’s approval of RLUSD highlights Ripple’s focus on regulatory compliance and institutional trust. Jack McDonald, Senior Vice President of Stablecoins at Ripple, noted that RLUSD has a market cap of over $1 billion. Large institutions are increasingly using it for guarantees and payments.

Thus, this stablecoin operates under the charter of a limited purpose trust company of the New York Department of Financial Services. It is backed 1:1 by US dollars held in high quality liquid assets. These guarantees, combined with strict reserve management, independent audits and clear redemption rights. They ensure that RLUSD meets the highest standards for transparency and security.

Compliance and trust are non-negotiable for institutional finance.

Reece Merrick, Ripple’s Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa, also highlighted that the UAE is setting global benchmarks in regulating digital assets. For example, local banks such as Zand Bank and Mamo have adopted Ripple’s blockchain-based payment solutions. This demonstrates practical and real-world use of RLUSD in corporate and cross-border transactions.

Thus, Ripple continues to expand its growth beyond the UAE. The company recently announced a strategic partnership in Bahrain. It secured its first custody client in Africa with Absa Bank. These moves reflect a broader trend in which stablecoins are gaining ground as tools for faster, cheaper, and more transparent payments. Additionally, by integrating RLUSD into Ripple’s cross-border payment system and capital markets solution, Ripple Prime. This means businesses can streamline the adoption of digital assets while remaining fully compliant.
