Security alert

Configurations affected: Geth

Severity:

Summary: A problem has been identified with the Geth journalization mechanism. This caused a network fork to the block # 2686351 (Nov-24-2016 14:12:07 UTC). The new version of Geth 1.5.3 solves the journalization problem and repairs the fork.

Details: Geth fails to reintegrate empty account deletions when the transaction causing the deletions of empty accounts ended with an out -of -gas exception. An additional problem was found in parity, where the parity client did not correlate incorrect empty account deletions in a set of more limited contexts involving out -of -gas to precompounded contracts; The new GETH behavior corresponds to parity and empty accounts will cease to be a source of concern in general in about a week once the state compensation process is completed.

The chain which was created from block # 2686351 by the old client Geth, that the parity and the new version of Geth consider invalid, seems to have been mainly abandoned around block # 2686516, which means that ~ 165 blocks have been extracted on the now abandoned chain. Transactions are broadcast on the network, so most transactions are probably present both on the old Geth channel and the current channel, although mining rewards and transaction costs on the old GETH channel are lost. No transaction or block on the channel that the two customers will now accept will be sounded.

The latest Geth version will update the blockchain from the point of the fork, even if it synchronized the point of the fork.

Solution: Geth 1.5.3 has been released.

If you use Geth: Download the last customer here:

If you use Mist: Restart Mist and the Auto-Update functionality invites you to update the Geth client that Mist uses for Geth 1.5.3.

If you do not update, know that you will be on a non -valid channel which is not supported.

We continue to recommend that large -value exchanges and other users perform several customers and automatically stop operations or enter safe mode if they are synchronized with more than 10 blocks.

Ethereum websites and mobile applications that allow you to store Ether and / or make transactions are managed by Ethereum suppliers on the web or mobile (“third party suppliers”). Third -party suppliers manage their own Ethereum client infrastructure to facilitate their services. Generally, you have nothing to do if you use a third -party supplier such as Metamask, Jaxx and Myetherwallet. However, they can have instructions for you. You must check with your third party supplier Ethereum to see which actions, if necessary, they recommend to their users.

Non-liability clause
It is a highly technical and evolving highly technical space. If you choose to participate, you should know that there are many risks, including, but without limiting yourself, risks such as unexpected bugs and other technical complications that could cause loss of ether and other consequences. In addition, if you do not update towards Geth 1.5.3, you will be on an unwovened network. By choosing to use the Ethereum platform, you assume the risks of this emerging platform.
