April 22, 2025 — Gatherverse Youth Summit 2025 hosted a powerful roundtable titled “Technology in Transition: Balancing Innovation and Responsibility.” The panel brought together leading voices in digital innovation, psychology, blockchain, safety advocacy, and public policy to unpack the evolving role of technology in shaping the future for youth across the globe.
Moderated by Christopher Lafayette, the session opened with an emphasis on generational shifts and the urgent need to involve youth in shaping technological futures. He set the tone for an open, rapid-fire discussion with panelists who have not only studied the landscape but are actively shaping it.
Emily Wright, creator of It’ll Be Alright and a specialist in the psychology of discrimination and bias, highlighted the mental health challenges digital-native generations face. Bridging Millennials and Gen Z, she noted the need for emotional grounding to help young people navigate a hyper-digital world that can easily reprogram self-perception and values.
Elena Bascone, founder and political economist based in Brussels, emphasized the structural barriers young Europeans face in accessing innovation opportunities. She shared insights from her work with the European Union Institute for Research and called for inclusive innovation ecosystems, especially in policy think tanks that often exclude unconventional voices.
Carrie Pasquarello, CEO, safety strategist, and victim advocate, introduced her SEEK model—Safety, Empathy, Empowerment, Knowledge—to guide youth in navigating digital threats. She emphasized empathy-driven design and proactive education to help youth assess risks and make informed choices, rather than becoming passive participants in a fast-evolving tech world.
Nadja Bester, Co-founder of AdLunam, spoke from her experience building behavioral infrastructure for Web3. She questioned traditional innovation narratives, urging a redefinition of “responsible innovation” that centers on grassroots empowerment over profit-driven systems. Nadja also stressed the need for innovators to become transparent thinkers and educators, inviting the audience to embrace complexity rather than fear it.
The panel agreed that we are living in a multi-layered transition unlike any before—with AI, Web3, and hyper-innovation reshaping identity, agency, and society. Their shared message: the future of technology must be co-created with youth, ensuring both safety and sovereignty in an increasingly interconnected world.
As Christopher closed the session, he left the audience with a final reflection—perhaps, in this era of acceleration, the greatest innovation we can offer is time—time to think, to feel, to collaborate, and to reclaim our humanity.
