Tether has announced that it would eliminate the USDT support for five underused blockchains – OMNI, BCH SLP, Kusama, EOS and Algorand. The redemptions of the USDT on these inherited blockchains will be completely interrupted on September 1, 2025.

The decision comes as the efforts of the attachment to rationalize operations and focus on high -utility networks. These networks no longer align with the priorities of Tether’s infrastructure and strategic orientation.

“Tether’s decision follows a complete examination of the blockchain use data, market demand and comments from community stakeholders and infrastructure partners. Although these networks have played a fundamental role in Tether’s early growth, the volume of the USDT circulating on them has decreased considerably in the past two years, “Tether said in a Friday announcement.

The company behind the largest stablecoin by market capitalization favors actively developed ecosystems which offer greater scalability, solid developer communities and better integration potential.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said in a statement that Tether wanted to remain relevant and effective while industry continues to change and develop. The end of the support for older blockchains gives Tether the possibility of concentrating your time, money and technical resources on more active, scalable and widely used networks by developers and users.

Users are advised to Tether holding USDT on the blockchains assigned to buy their assets or request the program on a supported blockchain, in accordance with the conditions of use of the company.

The company plans to extend the management of layer 2 networks, including the Lightning network and other emerging blockchains offering an improvement in interoperability and speed.

Tether noted that he continues to explore partnerships with blockchain ecosystems where user activity and developers’ commitment are strong.
