The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has formalized a new leadership structure for its confidentiality program, raising confidentiality of a set of initiatives parallel to a coordinated cluster “Privacy @ EF” which is explicitly organized around cases of real use and deployment.
Ethereum makes privacy a priority
In an article on October 1 entitled “Leadership announcement in confidentiality clusters”, EF declared that it “will be organized for the scale and the impact”, appointing the manufacturer of the longtime ecosystem Igor Barinov as a coordinator of private life @ EF and Andy Guzman as a new coordinator of the PSE team (Privacy & Scaling Exploations) succeeding Sam Richards. “Together, Igor and Andy will help guarantee that Ethereum’s confidentiality work is impactful, coherent and responsible,” wrote the foundation.
The announcement reappears the confidentiality mission of EF as three concrete pillars – “Private Reads”, “Private written” and “Private Puting” – which directs directly to the needs of users and institutional. The Foundation is explicit that confidentiality will no longer be treated as an abstract research track divorced from the shipping software.
“For Ethereum to become a foundation of the civilizational infrastructure, privacy cannot be an abstract research alone. It must be organized, resources and deployed on a large scale, ”indicates the position – an unusual direct articulation of the final objective of the program and a signal that the cluster will be judged during delivery as well as on research production.
The message ends with a blunt creed – “confidentiality is normal, and Ethereum is for confidentiality” – and an open invitation so that the manufacturers connect with Barinov and Guzman and explore a catalog of “700+ projects” in the chain confidentiality space.
Barinov, better known for the Alcohol Foundation, the Gnosis chain and the ZKBOB, provides a mixture of infrastructure, openness management and applied privacy product experience. Guzman, who has been with PSE / EF since 2022, goes from the strategy and leadership produced in the highest operational role for PSE, which EF describes as an applied cryptography, research and engineering.
In essence, the cluster model is designed to integrate work in progress on the calculation preserving confidentiality with the guarantees of public verifiability of Ethereum. Although the position will not enumerate specific deliverables or dates, its emphasis on “portable” and “usable” readings, institutional conformity and minimization of metadata implies a roadmap which extends beyond ecosystem.
