The president of the SEC, Paul Atkins, reiterated support for the executive decree of President Trump opening 401 (K) s to crypto and investment capital, saying that he will give more options for retirement savers and could level the rules of the game with pensions.
“Because the market has changed a lot in recent decades, where the number of public companies is now half of what it was,” said Atkins on the morning with Maria “this morning. “And the private market has really developed considerably because there are a lot of capital looking for offers in which invest.”
According to Atkins, the change has left individual investors in a disadvantage, with large pension funds and university allocations to be able to participate in private agreements. At the same time, participants 401 (K) remain locked.
Authorizing access to these markets, he said, could help fill this gap.
“It is not really great to have a situation where grants and large pension funds, such as state pension funds and so on, can be diversified in public and private markets, but the 401ks cannot,” he said.
However, Atkins has warned that policy should not be deployed without guarantees. He underlined the need for “appropriate tourniquets” to ensure that investors include risks.
The executive decree attributes to the Ministry of Labor and the SEC to develop a regulatory framework to implement changes, aimed at finding a balance between increased access and protection for retirement savers.

Discussing the Crypto project, a newly launched initiative aimed at reforming the rules of securities for cryptographic assets, Atkins declared that the SEC mobilizes all its divisions, from the financing of companies to the management of investments, to introduce digital assets under clear and viable rules.
Atkins said one of the main priorities is now to revise childcare regulations to adapt cryptographic assets and blockchain infrastructure.
“We examine the rules that exist for the moment, you know, around 90 years old, and we ensure that they are adaptable and adapted to the modern world and this new technology. This will therefore have effects on brokers and asset managers and investment advisers, “he said.
The regulatory environment for cryptographic innovation is changing, according to Atkins.
“For too long now, there have been a lot of conjectures, and there was a very hostile environment for people who were trying to innovate,” he said. “Our goal is to give clarity and certainty.”
“He will be undergone by everything that comes out of the congress, but I believe that we have the power to move forward in these areas and to provide this certainty and this clarity for people,” he added.
Asked about the perspectives of crypto payments, Atkins stressed how real -time settlement systems could transform the financial sector.
He said faster regulation reduces the period during which transactions remain exposed to operational or market risk, reducing the risk of disturbances and adding transparency to the process.
“This is what the blockchain offers,” said Atkins. “It will offer enormous advantages to the market that we probably can’t even calculate for the moment.”
