Trump says he treated on cryptography legislation after GOP hard-liners derailed a measure earlier

After a previous withdrawal for the Trump administration when the Republicans of the House did not advance a key procedural vote on a set of legislation, including three crypto measures, President Donald Trump said later that he had concluded an agreement with the Republican members of the Congress to advance the legislation on Wednesday.

Trump said in an article on his Truth social platform that he had met in the oval office with 11 of the 12 GOP members had to pass the package.

“After a brief discussion, they all agreed to vote tomorrow morning in favor of the rule,” said Trump. “The president of the Mike Johnson room was in the phone meeting and is looking forward to taking the vote as soon as possible.”

Trump did not provide details on the agreement.

In a long statement published later, Johnson thanked Trump for helping to lock the votes necessary to advance cryptographic legislation.

“I am grateful that President Trump gets involved this evening to ensure that we can adopt the act of genius tomorrow and accept again to help us advance additional cryptography legislation in the coming days,” said Johnson, referring to the name of one of the bills.

Earlier Tuesday, a dozen Republicans from the Chamber put Trump and Johnson to prevent legislation from advancing on the ground – joining the whole Democratic Caucus – and, at least temporarily, freezing of activity in the House. The final count was 196-223.

Johnson had declared earlier that even if he provided that there could be enough opposition to defeat the effort, he thought it was “important” to try to advance the bills. The Republicans have a close majority in the House – with 220 Republicans against 212 Democrats.

Johnson said that he would try to work with republican retained to answer questions.

The president explained that the conservatives who voted against the rule wanted the bills of Crypto – Clarity, Genius and Anti CBDC on surveillance – combined in a large package, rather than taking separate autonomous votes for each measure.

“This is the legislative process. We have members who really want, really highlighting the product of the room,” said Johnson. “They want, want to push this and merge them together. We are trying to work with the White House and with our Senate partners on this subject. I think everyone insists that we are going to do the three, but some of these guys insist that it must be everything in a single package.”

The intraparty rebellion comes after Trump has strongly urged the Republicans to vote in favor of the progress of Crypto bills.

“The Genius Act will put our Lightyears of Grand Nation before China, Europe and all the others, who are constantly trying to catch up, but they just can’t do it,” Trump posted on Tuesday. “Digital assets are the future, and we are running out a lot! Make the first vote this afternoon (all Republicans should vote yes!).”

Votes NO came from representatives Andy Biggs, Tim Buchett, Michael Cloud, Andrew Clyde, Eli Crane, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Andy Harris, Anna Paulina Luna, Scott Perry, Chip Roy, Keith Self and Victoria SPARTZ. The head of the majority, Steve Scalie, also changed his vote into “no” to preserve the ability to recall the measure for another attempted voting.

Luna, a Republican from Florida, told ABC News that she was “pro -Crypto”, but voted against the procedural vote because she continues to care about the creation of a “stolen door” in a digital currency of the Central Bank – a concern reproduced by Greene.

“I have just voted not on the rule of the law on genius because it does not include the ban on the digital currency of the central bank and because President Johnson did not allow us to submit changes to the law on genius,” said Greene, R-GA., Posting on X. “The Americans do not want a prohibition of the controlled central bank.

The vote came during what the White House calls “the crypto weekend” and marks a rare example when the republicans of the room challenged Trump.

Trump, who launched his own Crypto and the same corner this year, recently said that he was a “crypto fan” and called him a “very powerful industry” that the United States “dominated”.

“I am president. And what I did was to build an industry that is very important,” said Trump last month. “If we didn’t have it, China would do it.”

Formerly skeptical crypto, Trump and his family have fully immersed themselves on the cryptocurrency market, not only developing the $ Trump part, but also a Bitcoin extraction company, a Stablecoin company and a crypto reserve.
