Trump has strengthened his pro-Crypto position, saying that cryptographic assets remained resistant during market slowdowns and are now largely adopted. The president said that the United States had to conduct digital assets innovation or the risk of delaying countries like China.
“I want crypto,” said Trump in an interview with NBC News’ meets the press this week. The president was asked how he reacted to people who express their concern about the possibility that he benefits from the presidency.
“I think the crypto is important because if we don’t do it, China will do it,” he said. “It’s new. It is very popular. It’s very hot. ” He added that during market slowdowns, crypto “remained much stronger than other aspects of the market”.
Trump noted that the crypto is too important to ignore, indicating the extent of adoption as an engine of its pro-Crypto position. He also accused the Biden administration of initially repressed the crypto, but later softening its position for political purposes.
Pressed if he is taking advantage of the official Trump token (Trump), the president said that he “does not take advantage of anything” and stressed that his support from the crypto began well before the presidential campaign.
“I didn’t even watch,” said Trump, adding that “if I have stocks in something, and I do a good job, and the stock market increases, I guess I take advantage.”
Trump said he had provided all his presidential salary to the government. When he was asked if he would bring income related to the crypto, he replied that he had never considered it.
“Do I have to contribute to all my real estate that I have had for many years if it increases a little because I am president and that I do a good job? I do not think,” he said.
The president added that he planned to continue to contribute his salary during his current mandate.
The Trump token, which once reached a market capitalization of almost $ 15 billion, experienced a sharp decline after the inauguration of President Trump. At the time of the press, its market capitalization amounted to around $ 2 billion, by CoinmarketCap.
Last week, the token jumped more than 70% after the news announced that President Trump will organize an exclusive dinner for the best Trump tokens holders. Planned for May 22 at the Trump National Golf Club, the event will be limited to the 220 door holders.
The announcement aroused bipartite concern.
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff called for an ethical survey, citing potential practices to “pay to play” and the risk of personal enrichment by selling presidential access.
Even some Trump’s allies have expressed discomfort. Senator Cynthia Lummis, a vocal supporter of Trump and an eminent Bitcoin defender, expressed her discomfort.
“It is my president we are talking about, but I am ready to say that it gives me a break,” said Lummis, according to CNBC.
