Key points to remember:

  • On the All-In podcast, Chamath Palihapitiya said the quantum threat to Bitcoin accelerated from 25 to 7 years.

  • States of Palihapitiya Bitcoin will be the first drain of honeypot hackers to drop prices to 0.

  • To survive, the Bitcoin network faces 5-7 year timeline to migrate and rethink knots and wallets.

Chamath Palihapitiya warns Bitcoin Reportedly targeted by non-state actors leveraging quantum supremacy

The question of cracking quantum computing cryptocurrencies has become a mainstream topic, with experts and investors giving their opinions on the issue.

On the All-In podcast, venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya said the expected appearance of a quantum chip capable of breaking bitcoin accelerated from 25 years to 7 years at most.

Taking this into account, Palihapitiya advised the leaders of the Bitcoin ecosystem to organize and move to protect bitcoin of this threat or risk becoming an obvious honeypot.

While acknowledging that all encryption-based systems, including banking and financial institutions, would be at risk in the event of a quantum computer powerful enough to break encryption, he stressed that crypto and bitcoin would be the first targets.

He emphasized:

“The incentive for a non-state actor will be to first empty the obvious honeypots, and then tell everyone it’s broken, so that then everything goes to shit, all prices go to zero, and then they have all the money, and then they can buy things. »

While recent reports support the upcoming ramp-up of these computers, reducing the processing power they would need to achieve quantum supremacy over encryption, the Bitcoin community is still debating whether to implement measures to protect its encryption system against hypothetical quantum attacks.

Palihapitiya acknowledged the complex migration that would follow these anti-quantum measures, including a wallet overhaul that would affect transactional flows and processing nodes.

“These are complicated things that have to happen. And I would just say to the crypto community, you have 5 to seven years to put your affairs in order,” he concluded.

But not everyone in the community shares the same views, with some even dismissing these warnings and believing that quantum computing is not a near-term threat that bitcoiners should worry about.
