In a significant update of the protocol long-term roadmap, the co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, called for the simplification of the basic ETH protocol to make the network more efficient and resistant.
How can Ethereum achieve the simplicity of the protocol?
In a blog article of May 3 entitled “Simplify L1”, Buterin shared its point of view on the need to simplify the Ethereum network, declaring that simplicity is an important agreement – but easy to undervalue – as evolvingness and resilience. The Crypto founder applauded how beautifully the Bitcoin blockchain is beautiful.
Buterin said:
Even an intelligent secondary student is able to end fully and understand the Bitcoin protocol. A programmer is able to write a client as a leisure project.

According to Buterin, the simplicity of the protocol offers a variety of advantages that are crucial to ensure that blockchain networks, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, remain a credible basic layer and of confidence overall. Meanwhile, it also reduces infrastructure costs, long -term maintenance expenses and the risks of insects and malicious attacks.
In the blog post, Buterin also described how the Ethereum network can become as simple as Bitcoin in five years. According to the co-founder, one of the three ways of reaching this simplicity is a more optimal layer of consensus, with a revival of finality with 3 locations.
In addition, Buterin mentioned the simplification of the execution layer, complaining about how the complexity of the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM) has increased unnecessarily. To solve this problem, the Crypto co-founder proposed to replace the EVM with a new minimum virtual machine (like RISC-V).
The co-founder noted:
The biggest challenge with significant simplification (or even improvement without complexing) part of the EVM is how to balance the achievement of the desired objectives by preserving downward compatibility for existing applications.
Finally, Buterin stressed that the third and “most easily underestimated” to improve the simplicity of the protocol is to share a standard on different parts of the protocol. “There are generally very little or no advantages to use different protocols to do the same thing in different places,” said Ethereum co-founder.
Buterin concluded that simplicity is extremely similar to decentralization, which are both necessary to reach resilience in blockchains.
Ethereum prices overview
While Buterin will seek to adapt to the Ethereum network, ETH investors hope that these improvements will result in the value of the ether token. ETH’s performance has been quite disappointing so far in 2025, recording four red months to start the year.
To date, the price of the ether represents approximately $ 1,817, reflecting a decrease of 1.6% in the last 24 hours. It should be mentioned that the Ethereum price has experienced bullish momentum in the last two weeks, its value increasing by almost 15% during this period.
