Volume Profile Indicators Now Available on Kraken Desktop

TL;DR

  • Four native volume profile tools are now available on Kraken Desktop: Volume Profile Visible Range (VPVR), Volume Profile Fixed Range (VPFR), Anchored Volume Profile (AVP), and Session Volume Profile (SVP).
  • VPVR is a chart-wide overlay that dynamically updates as you pan or zoom, showing the volume distribution in your current view.
  • Assistant Vice President and Senior Vice President Track the evolution of the structure from a selected point in time or across trading sessions, with up to 90 days of session history available on demand.
  • Analysis and execution now reside on the same workstationso the level you spot is the one you trade from, without a separate charting tool.

A price chart shows you where the market is. The volume profile shows you where it actually traded the most and where it barely traded.

Kraken Desktop now displays both. Four native volume profile indicators, Volume Profile Visible Range (VPVR), Volume Profile Fixed Range (VPFR), Anchored Volume Profile (AVP), and Session Volume Profile (SVP), are available on desktop today, providing traders with a way to read market structure and act on it without leaving the platform.

Why volume profile is important

Most charts show just one dimension: where the price has moved over time. Volume Profile adds a second axis, plotting the volume traded at each price level rather than at each time point.

The resulting histogram reveals a structure that price action alone cannot: the control point, the price level with the most traded volume; the value zone, the range where most of the activity is concentrated; and low-volume nodes, thinner areas where prices tend to move quickly because few transactions have occurred there.

For traders building a thesis around market structure, it’s the difference between guessing where a level might be and knowing where the market has already shown its hand.

Each indicator is suited to a different way of reading the structure.

VPVR: visible range of volume profile

A chart-wide overlay in the Analysis panel. VPVR displays a right-anchored volume histogram over any time window currently on screen, and it updates dynamically as you pan or zoom. This is the quickest way to find out where the volume has concentrated in the range you’re already watching.

VPFR: fixed range of volume profile

A drawing tool for more deliberate analysis. Drag a time and price zone over a specific set of candles, and VPFR profiles volume inside that exact selection, useful for studying a prior range or a specific move alone.

AVP: Anchored Volume Profile

Also a drawing tool. Anchor the AVP to a single point in time, a high, a low, a news event, an open session, and it profiles the cumulative volume from that point to the right edge of the chart. Use it to track how the structure changes after a specific point in time.

Please: Session Volume Profile

SVP does not need any configuration. It automatically displays for each UTC day or equity session, and scrolling back triggers an on-demand retrieval of up to 90 days of session history, so the session-by-session structure is always there when you need it.

Analysis and execution, without leaving Desktop

All four tools are native to Kraken Desktop, not an overlay from elsewhere. This distinction is important in practice: when structural analysis and order entry live in the same environment, the level you identify is the level from which you trade. There are no tabs to change or second windows to reconcile before you can take action.

Desktop’s native performance, running on a local computer rather than in a browser, means these overlays display and update smoothly, even as markets change quickly. This is the type of analysis that has always existed on institutional platforms and dedicated charting software, built right into the workstation you already use to trade.
