Lonked by its role of value reserve, Bitcoin makes a decisive breakthrough in DEFI. With the launch of the PEG-BTC (YBTC) token on the Suis network, Bitlayer presents a bitvm bridge “without confidence” which eliminates centralized intermediaries. This initiative marks an important evolution. The BTC becomes an asset fully usable in decentralized protocols, previously dominated by native tokens. A new chapter opens, that of an interoperable mobile Bitcoin now active in programmable financing.

Brief

  • Bitlayer announces the launch of YBTC, a token supported by Bitcoin, on the Blockchain followed via a Bitvm bridge.
  • YBTC allows the mobilization of the BTC in Defi: to mark out, lend, borrow and exchange on suis dex.
  • The BITVM bridge operates without centralized intermediaries, guaranteeing the safety and transparency of BTC transfers.
  • Bitlayer aims to deploy his bridge to other major blockchains such as Arbitrum, Starknet or Cardano.

YBTC: a bridge between Bitcoin and Defi Sur Suis

Bitlayer officially launched PEG-BTC (YBTC) on the SU network on May 15, via the integration of a bitvm bridge without confidence.

Such an initiative was announced on the official Bitlayer account:

Bitlayer et suis integrate the first BitVM bridge without confidence in the Defi ecosystem, making Bitcoin Productive sur Su thanks to YBTC.

More specifically, this synthetic token allows investors to deposit their BTC on Bitlayer to convert it to YBTC SUR AU, thus opening access to various DEFI applications on the network.

The features activated by this launch include:

  • Participation in jalitude via sung native protocols, maintaining an exhibition at the BTC;
  • Use in loan and loan services, allowing investors to generate return or access liquidity;
  • Exchange on the Dex de Suis, facilitating direct integration into the decentralized markets;
  • Preservation of the arrival value 1: 1 at BTC, secured by native locking on Bitlayer.

Since February 2025, shared data indicate that more than 587 BTCs have been integrated into the SUPE DEFI ecosystem, representing more than 10% of its TVL. The launch of YBTC aims to accelerate this momentum by expanding the base of Bitcoin investors active in Defi.

Bitvm Bridge Technology: security, interoperability and multi-chain ambitions

The technological specificity of the project lies in the use of the BITVM bridge, a bridge solution without confidence. This mechanism, still rare in the BTC ecosystem, allows the native locking of BTC on the Bitlayer layer before converting it to YBTC sur Su, without centralized intermediaries responsible for the guard.

“The BITVM bridge is designed to eliminate the risks associated with the intermediaries while guaranteeing the verifiability of transactions via a proof architecture”, “ Explains Bitlayer in his technical documentation.

However, the ambition of the BITVM bridge goes far beyond the simple case of use. Bitlayer already announces a roadmap extending to other major ecosystems such as Base, Starknet, Arbitrum, Sonic, Cardano and Plume Network.

This multi-chain strategy could allow PEG-BTC to become an interoperable standard for BTC tokenization on different DEFI networks. Audits and bridges are underway, aimed at a wider deployment in the coming weeks.

Although securing BTC flows is a technological priority, this progression raises questions about the future of DEFI. By providing an asset historically considered passive, Bitlayer transforms the nature of Bitcoin in the dynamics of yield and liquidity. The growing involvement of players like suis in this dynamic suggests that the BTCFI is about to structure itself as an autonomous segment, with its own standards, products and logic of governance. In this context, interoperability could quickly become an essential standard for the multi-chain ecosystem.
