Toronto – David Goyer, the filmmaker whose credits include The Blade Trilogy, The Dark Knight and the Apple TV Foundation series, said on Friday that he built a new science fiction universe based on the blockchain called Emergence.
The world of emergence, according to Goyer, presents spaceships, hunting hunting hunting hunting and white-science fiction staples that will serve as the basis for a sprawling transmedia project built inside the incentive, the new Goyer blockchain platform.
In a round table at the Coindesk consensus conference in Toronto, Goyer appeared alongside the Sy Lee of Story Protocol, the Blockchain focused on intellectual on which are based on definition and emergence. There, Goyer exposed his vision of incentive, saying that the platform will allow fans to co-create the emergence universe alongside professional storytellers.
“The idea is that we will involve the community in all of this, and they will have the opportunity to create characters who will join the Podcast, will join the animation, etc.”, he said.
Goyer criticized the Hollywood approach in IP construction, the caller “very high” and slow to adapt. “The franchises are built in the models of the film and television industry (on) which have a century,” he said. “It’s very difficult to innovate. It is very difficult to enter Hollywood if you are a newcomer.” Web3, he added, could help change this.
Story Protocol, launched in 2023, collected more than $ 80 million from donors including A16z, Hashed and Endeavour. The platform offers tools for the recording, monitoring and monetization of intellectual property on blockchain.
“Each intellectual property has its own program, its license and royalty sharing rights,” said Lee on Friday. “Without intermediary, someone can remix, dismiss and essentially rely on the intellectual property of someone else,” he added. “According to the rules established by the owner of the IP (…), they could share the advantages together.”
Goyer said he had written a 2,500 -page history bible to anchor the emergence universe. “We hired a bunch of truly talented concept artists who had worked on Harry Potter and Star Wars franchises, and a number of award-winning science fiction authors Hugo and Nebula to write stories in the universe using the Bible I have created,” he said.
This material also served training data for an AI agent, nicknamed “Atlas”, which, according to Goyer, will help contributors to co-create in a predefined narrative framework.
“This is what I would say is in a way a sanctioned use of AI, where we do not only scratch the information,” he said.
Visitors to the Emergence platform can read its characters and parameters or generate their own. The community can then vote stories and visuals generated by users. An editorial committee – chaired by Goyer – will determine which bids are part of the official cannon.
“We are going to let our community vote the characters that the community has created,” he said. “Then, the editorial committee – which is myself and a few other people – will decide which of these characters are best suited to the global franchise.”
“Ai, web3, blockchain – none of this is going, right? The whole world becomes tokenized,” said Goyer. “So, for me, I just thought it was something I have to learn and get involved.”
While AI and Blockchain have raised fears of job loss and the commodification of creative work, Goyer said that his hope was to use technology so as to empower artists.
“It is really a question of deciding if I will stick my head in the sand, or if I will have a seat at the table and see, in my own way, if I can help or not help to guide this in a way that is beneficial for creative types like me,” he said.
