Kraken Pro to Launch First CFTC-Regulated Crypto Futures Contracts in the United States

Kraken is set to launch the first CFTC-regulated perpetual futures contracts in the United States, making them available to eligible U.S. traders on Kraken Pro within 30 days. The move signals a significant shift, placing a widely popular crypto derivative product domestically under rigorous regulatory oversight.

  • Kraken will introduce CFTC-regulated perpetual futures contracts for US customers in less than a month.
  • These contracts will be integrated into the Kraken Pro platform, alongside spot, margin and CME-listed futures contracts.
  • The launch signals a major milestone in the offering of regulated crypto derivatives in the United States.

This groundbreaking offering will see the contracts listed on Bitnomial Exchange, LLC, which is a Designated Contracts Marketplace (DCM) regulated by the CFTC and acquired by Kraken’s parent company, Payward. Eligible US customers will access these perpetuals through NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC dba Kraken Derivatives US, a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant (FCM). This tiered structure ensures strict compliance with US regulations, as detailed in Kraken’s blog post.

Accessible trading for key digital assets

Once live, eligible US customers will be able to trade perpetual futures contracts on a full suite of major digital assets. This includes Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP, Cardano (ADA), Chainlink (LINK), Dogecoin (DOGE), Litecoin (LTC), and Avalanche (AVAX). Integrating these perpetuals directly into Kraken Pro provides a streamlined experience, allowing users to manage spot, margined and CME-listed futures contracts from a single interface.

Perpetual futures are the most traded digital asset derivatives in the world. Their popularity comes from the fact that they offer continuous leveraged exposure without fixed expiration dates. The market for these products is large, with annual trading volume reaching over $60 trillion in 2025. Bringing a product of such volume under U.S. regulation marks a new era for domestic crypto derivatives.

Changing the derivatives landscape

For years, U.S. traders seeking access to perpetual futures contracts typically relied on offshore platforms, which operated outside of direct U.S. regulatory frameworks. Kraken’s move fundamentally changes this dynamic, providing a fully regulated onshore alternative under CFTC oversight. This development suggests a maturation of the US crypto market, moving towards offering sophisticated financial products within established regulatory guardrails.

The road ahead

The launch of these CFTC-regulated perpetual futures contracts for eligible US customers is expected within the next 30 days. This timeline sets a clear horizon for when US traders can anticipate a new compliant path to interact with popular crypto derivatives directly on Kraken Pro.
