Summary
- Carpooling application launches cryptographic payments
- The application will support BTC, ETH, USDC and USDT
- The adoption of the crypto increases rapidly in Southeast Asia
The use of commercial crypto slowly become the current on a global scale. On Monday, July 28, Grab, the largest carpooling application in Southeast Asia, announced the addition of support for cryptographic payments to the Philippines. Users in the country will now be able to recharge the Grab cash balance with Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), as well as USDC and USDT Stablecoins.
This feature was activated thanks to a partnership with Triple-A, a company specializing in cryptographic payments. The two companies began to collaborate in 2024, when Grab deployed a recovery function of cryptography similar to Singapore. Triple-A CEO Eric Barbier said this decision would make digital currencies more accessible and easier to use in daily life in Southeast Asia.
“We had a successful launch of Grabpay recharges with a cryptocurrency in Singapore. The answer was fantastic. Now we are impatient to provide this service to the Philippines, a market ready for digital currencies,” said Eric Barbier, triple-a.
The Philippines lead to the adoption of cryptography
In addition to triple-a, Grab also joined an exchange of local crypto, Pdax. Its CEO, Nichel Gaba, stressed that, due to various factors, the Philippines are a leader in the adoption of cryptography, both regionally and even in the world.
The PDEX PDEX hopes that this decision would take care of existing cryptography users and stimulate subsequent adoption. At the same time, CJ Lacsican, executive of Garb, explained that crypto plays an important role in digital inclusion in developing countries.
“By offering more accessible and digital solutions, we aim to allow a broader spectrum of the Philippins – in particular those who have limited access to traditional banking services or those who prefer the convenience of digital currencies”, CJ Lacsican, Grab Philippines.
